'Celebrity Apprentice': anybody catch it?

I missed the premiere of Celebrity Apprentice last night. Perhaps it was an act of subconscious self-preservation? It doesn't look that good, although the claim that it will be somewhat less commercial did intrigue me.

But since I didn't end up catching it, it matters not now.

If you saw it, what did you think?

Enjoyable, but predictable...It was less commerical than past Apprentice episodes, but Mayor Bloomberg sure did get a lot of face time! He is a publicity wh*re!

I saw some of it. One question: "Where were the celebrities?"

Ha! Yes, maybe I should have headlined it "'Celebrity' Apprentice."

Well...yeah. You have to ask yourself who on this earth thinks of Omarossa as a "celebrity." Even when we see her name onscreen, the hook underneath is "Reality Show Star." You don't get that from Gene Simmons, despite the Family Jewels program. He was a complete riot in this episode, by the way. And the previews for the next one are promising more hijinks from him.

I suppose that all of them are celebrities in a way, and in their own right. Not every viewer is necessarily going to know every contestant. People who don't have HBO may not know Vincent Pastore; I certainly had no idea who Tito Ortiz was. And the genuine A-listers don't have the time, or the depleted bank account, to deal with this sort of nonsense. So, I'm not going to complain about the overall level of celebrity.

The fact that they're not trying to suck up to Trump for a job at the end of all this will also have an interesting effect on their behavior, I think, although given the first firing (the Playboy centerfold), I don't know that Trump realizes it yet. However, it's pretty clear that he's shooting for what will make "good TV".

I also like the part where the winning team can watch part of the Boardroom sequence back in the suite. Next week (and thereafter), no matter who the winners are, it's likely to affect what people say (or don't) in during that portion of the show.
