'Survivor: China': farewell, 'bad boy'

Watching Thursday's Survivor: China, all I could think was, was Jean-Robert paying attention last week?

I know that, like Jaime, he had to assume that the wood piece he found was the hidden immunity idol, but he never seemed to question that what he had was the idol -- despite seeing host Jeff Probst toss her "idol" into the fire at the previous tribal council.

Anyway, for some reason, he thought he had it made -- until Erik told him that James already had the two idols. That made me sad because by that point I was really looking forward to Jean-Robert making the exact same boneheaded move that Jaime did.

But he didn't, and yet he is out, and I am glad. Because the self-proclaimedpoker-playing "bad boy" has been bugging me for weeks, and I didn't even have to live with him.

It didn't much matter whether John-Robert was paying attention or not. (And anyway, calling yourself the "bad boy" is just bad form. It puts me in mind of when NY Met Dwight Gooden gave himself that "Doc" moniker.) He was going sooner or later, and I'm sure that his threatening people with some sort of post-elimination bad press ("If I get voted out, I'll blame you" to Todd) certainly didn't help.

Todd, on the other hand, is the one not paying attention. He's really overthinking the game and his constant changing of strategy is putting everyone off.

If Todd had presented a better argument for voting off James, his maneuver might have worked. As it is, James is now on his guard (did you notice his face when the second vote appeared?) and will play his idols and/or work especially hard at getting individual immunity. Plus, he may strike back at Todd.

At this point James is a pretty solid Final Four. Is he no longer tight with Denise?

I'm really confused about what happened with the James and Denise friendship the show alluded to earlier -- she expressed disdain at the idea of going before Jean-Robert or James the other day, and James was one of the people who expressly said Denise shouldn't be told about the plan last week. So strange.
