Imbibe Magazine picks its top beers

Imbibe Magazine, a prize- winning publication from  Portland , Oregon names its top 100 beers in the world  in the Sept/October issue.

I have not seen this issue but did read  a press release with highlights. A publicist for the magazine told me  no beer brewed in Maryland made  the cut.

However, several beers brewed near us did win a nod of approval.

Victory Prima Pils , brewed in Downington ,Pa, was  named as one of the best 10  beers to have with a burger.

Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron , brewed in Milton , Delaware  was cited as one of the top 10 beers brewed in unusual places.

And Sly Fox Pikeland  Pils from Phoenixville ,  Pa, was said to be one of the 10 best canned craft beers.

We can't get Sly Fox in Baltimore, but we can get several of the other canned craft beers Imbibe liked: Oskar Blues Ten FIDY, Oskar Blues Old Chub, ,  21st Amendment, and Caldera Brewing Pale Ale.

We also get Victory and Dogfish bottled beers.

Do you agree with these picks?

Any additions?

I think Victory Pils is one of the best beers widely available in the area. It is pretty much all my wife will drink. Old Chub (the wine source carries it) is amazing and very strong.

Victory Prima Pils is one of my top 5 beers. It's good anytime, especially with a burger. I can't say I've tried all of their canned varieties, but I'm not a big fan of the Oskar Blues brews. The 21st Amendment IPA is great, though. I have yet to try their watermelon.

Rob,
I will be playing a match in Phoenixville, PA this Sunday. If there is a beer store open, I will try to pick up a case of the Sly Fox Pikeland Pils.
Happy Labor Day!

JENN: GOOD LUCK AND GOOD DRINKING. I BELIEVE THE SLY FOX HAS A RESTAURANT AND BREW PUB THERE SO IT MIGHT BE OPEN ON SUNDAY.. ROB

Doesn't Sly Fox brew and bottle the Brewer's Art beers for retail?

Jenn, there definitely won't be a beer distributor open in Phoenixville Sunday, but maybe you can get a growler at the pub.

Rob, what's so unusual about Delaware? I lived there for 2 years and didn't think there was a single interesting thing about it! I still love some of the DFH brews, though.

Nothing unusual about Milton DE. Maybe Imbibe magazine needs to get an atlas. Now what is their #1 beer to have while picking crabs?

I'm pretty sure they meant "unusual" as-in, why Milton, DE?! Make sense?

Rob,
There were actually TWO beer distributors open in Phoenixville on Sunday... but NEITHER of them sold Sly Fox Pikeland Pils!
That was frustrating... never did get to a pub. (but we won our match!)

Jenn

Another well-deserved VICTORY !
