Coors Light Makes Fun of Toronto, Pulls Ads

Toronto residents got steamed when a Coors Light ad made fun of their chilly demeanor.

Billboards ads poking fun at Torontonians --- saying that Coors Light is "colder than most people from Toronto" -- have been pulled  The Toronto Star reports.

The ads appeared on about 30 billboards, but only in the  Vancouver area. Visitors from Toronto saw the ads and were not impressed, the Star reported.

The slogan was one of four being plastered on billboards in British Columbia.

Here are the other three:

Colder than a souvenir guy in March 2010.

It's the Venti of ice cold beer.

Colder than a certain unemployed ranger.

Does anybody out there speak Canadian? We need a translation. Why are these funny?

Also can we think of any comparable slogans for our region.

One that comes to my mind: Coors Light is colder than most clerks at the MVA.

Any others?

Coors Light: Colder than the O's in August.

I'm Canadian and I don't understand the other three ad slogans at all. They aren't funny, even to a Canadian. I think the souvenir guy thing refers to the Olympics being over. Seems like a pretty lame campaign to me. I'm from Toronto and think that slogan at least has some humour in it.

they were targeted at a vancouver audience...not one in toronto (obviously). the first is of course an olympic shout out...as we are increasingly consumed by that topic now. the second is a shot at the coffee culture of vancouver. and the third is a reference to a major kokanee beer campaign that was also BC based. it is a cleverly, and very locally targeted campaign. but, if you aren't from here, it would be hard to judge the humour of them.

Yah all these slogans make sense in Vancouver and not anywhere else except he Toronto one would probably be funny everywhere in Canada except Toronto.

Toronto could probably counter... Coors Light - Colder than an NBA franchise in Vancouver

By getting "steamed" about an ad on the other side of Canada just kind of proves the Toronto stereotype - Toronto citizens look like prissy snobs now.

I want to see the kokanee girls take over as rangers and try to catch the sasquatch

Who wants to drink Coors Light anyway? This beer should be taken off the Canadian market because of it's offensive taste and smell! Colorado is the place for this "Rocky Mountain" beer made with no preservatives except for John Denver's embalming fluid, which is running a little low. Toronto Rocks!!

I live in Toronto and I don't think anybody cared about those ads. I didn't hear of any outrage among my friends or anybody else, for that matter. It's not like we were turning over cars and looting shops.

Most people who live here know that Toronto can be a pretty unfriendly place. I mean, some of us are nice people. But most of the year here is bone-chilling cold so it's not a stop-and-chat culture here because we're too busy trying to get to where we need to go. It's not that we're not nice. It's just that we're usually too cold, literally.

When my girlfriend, who used to live in Baltimore, first visited Toronto, some guy threw a sub sandwich at us as we walked along the sidewalk. I could only laugh and say, welcome to Toronto.

On the other hand, we were in Baltimore last week and somebody walking past on the sidewalk said, 'hey, how are ya?' Totally unsolicited. We were both floored. I think it's a sad comment that we were both shocked by the niceties of a stranger.

Point is, I speak Canadian and I don't get why those other ones are 'funny' either.

I read about this billboard crap in the local paper. It's ridiculous how politically correct we have to be.

If someone is offended by this ad they should just suck it up. The feedback column in the local news took emails from people and a few were saddened because they thought we were "bullying on billboards".

This whole thing is ridiculous.

However, because Coors Light removed the billboards I will never buy their beer, unless they put them up again.
