Rating the brews served at the beer summit

Several news sources are reporting that the brews for today's White House beer summit are as follows.

President Barack Obama: Bud Light

Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.: Red Stripe

Sgt. James Crowley: Blue Moon.

I am not a light beer guy, but in a 2007 taste test,  Consumer Reports said Bud Light lagged behind three types of Michelob light brews, Budweiser Select, Coors Light and Sam Adams in flavor.

Red Stripe, a lager from Jamaica, got an overall grade of  "C" when it was rated by beer drinkers on the Beer Advocate web site.

Blue Moon Belgian White, made by Coors, got a B minus when it was rated by Beer Advocate.

Forced to pick from among these three, I would go with the Blue Moon, but drink only one.

What would be your pick?

Definitely the Red Stripe... but I'm not a fan of Belgian white's.

I Vot REd STripe!
Why Coors when New Belgium really pioneered the Belgian style market, and Bud Lite? the Once-Was-an-American- Beer

My kinda Prez. Bridge the issues with a cold one!

I'd go with the Bluemoon. It was one of my favorites a while back. And yes I would drink more than one.

Blue moon.

My question is, what kind of beer does BO *really* like? I have to imagine he's going for the Bud Light as an "everyman" sort of beer, not necessarily because it's what he *wants* to drink.

I would probably bring my own

As a serious beer snob... I'd ask for an iced tea and wait for my personal shipment of Dogfish Head 90min IPA to arrive.

OB with bud light? Well, you are what you drink.

I could tell Obama was a Chicago guy by his choice (bud is number one in Chicago) I would bring my own and it would be Spotted Cow or Fat squirrel from the New Glarus brewery in WI. But if I had to drink one of the three it would be Blue Moon with an orange.

Blue Moon on draft with a slice of orange.

I agree. Blue Moon is decent especially when compared to Bud Light, so that would be my choice as well among the three.

My favorite beer is a Beefeater Martini.

I'd just choose water over these three...or bring some Newcastle Brown Ale....

I would go with the Blue Moon too, and might even have two or three if it was a half-decent wheat beer which I have some reason to doubt.

Prompted by a waggish commenter elsewhere I had emailed the Stone Brewing Co. suggesting that it might want to ship a complimentary case of its Arrogant Bastard Ale to be served on the White House as it were. :-)

Apparently there were no takers.

I opt for Doubl Bag from Long Trail Brewing in Vermont. Blue Moon is a good choice. I have never had Red Stripe. Obama ordered Bud Light because it is a safe choice although he may like it as well.

I wouldn't go with any of the above choices. I'd ask for Mac & Jack Amber to be brought in for me!
