What beer should the White House serve?

Washington is abuzz with beer talk.

Politico, the ultimate inside-the-Beltway source of political news, reports that  the expected reconciliation meeting over a beer between Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the Cambridge police sergeant who arrested him,  James Crowley, will take place Thursday evening at the White House.

President Barack Obama, playing the role of the nation's top host, will serve.

Gates is said to have a taste for Becks and Red Stripe.

Crowley favors Blue Moon.

Press secretary Robert Gibbs, parrying with reporters about which brew will be served, noted that Obama had a Budweiser at the All-Star Game in St. Louis.

Of course he did. St. Louis is the hometown of Bud.

So, if you were president, what beer would you serve to these two gentlemen?

I think I would you go for a compromise hometown beer, something from Sam Adams or Harpoon. Both are from Massachusetts, the state where these men reside.

Another option is a hometown brew from the D.C. area.  I guess the closest brewery is Hook & Ladder in Silver Spring. Perhaps they should have a Backdraft brown, a mellow beer for a mellow moment.

If you were the leader of the free world, what beer would you serve?

You know Obama will go with what GATES likes but personally I like the idea of sticking to the beers of the state MA the state where they reside.

Any black and tan would be perfect!!

I haven't been to either of their DC locations, but back when Capital City Brewing Co. had a spot in Harborplace, we enjoyed some great brews there. If I were President, I'd have a direct pipe line to the Capitol Hill brewery installed

Beck's, Red Stripe, Blue Moon- All Foreign Owner!!!
How about an American Owned and American Brewed Beer?
Beer-30
I own the Beer-30 Label (Ga Resident)
produced by City Brewery in LaCrosse, Wi.
Think About it!

It would be nice to see at least ONE U.S.-owned beer served at the White House. What a disappointment.

Obama's from Chicago - why is there no Goose Island at the White House? He's gone on record as saying he enjoys their beer.

I guess he still thinks Budweiser is the "All American Lager". Marketing working its magic even on the President of the United States (sigh)

Maybe Franklin's in Hyattsville?

They could have the Anarchy Ale or the "Mission Accomplished" session beer!

Oh, and to inject race into this again...Crowley's drinking a white beer? Really?

Well, if I were leader of the free world, one of the rooms in that house would be turned into a massive walk-in refrigerator which would allow the participants to choose from many different styles of beer, but that's a different story.

Since it's in the evening, a nice ale, maybe one with a patriotic angle. How about Anchor Steam's Liberty Ale?

How about Boulevard's Bully! Porter?

I think they need something like arrogant bastard ale, so they get a taste of their own arrogance. Then, when they realize how bitter it is, they can make up.

OR

if they go local beer, they can go for the sam adams triple bock (17.5% alcohol content). Then, when they get drunk, they can either just beat each other up on national tv, or hug and make up.

Last time I checked Blue Moon was owned by Coors (a US company). Not that I would endorse its consumption. Sadly, there are no bottled beers brewed in DC, but a local brew from the greater DC metro area would be great.

Sweetwater Brewing Company, "Happy Ending Imperial Stout"

I think Crowley will get overruled and he will end up having to split a 40.

According to the Blue Moon website, brewed in Toronto. Imported through Colorado.

Part of the Molson/Coors partnership, I believe.

Volker - Coors is not a US-owned company.

Coors is now owned by SAB Miller
(SAB = South African Breweries)

Sam Adams makes a great Summer Ale. Plus it's patriotic.

Colt 45 or Steel Reserve!!

He picked Bud Light.

I vote for Hook & Ladder. Not only is it local, but they donate a portion of every sale to local firefighter burn foundations. It is Great Beer that Gives Back and worth the President's suport!

How about Foggy Bottom? Not brewed in DC at the moment, but has the local history.

I say go for a Harrisburg, PA beer such as Troegs a microbrew, Troeganator 8.2% or in VA., Starr Hill another microbrew, an Amber ale, sorry don't know the %.
Or they each have their own from MA.

A perfect beer would be Anchor Steam. Not frivolous, not too heavy. Distinguished but not stuffy. Easy drinking not bitter. American but with flavor. I put a lot of thought into that, I love beer.

Geez, no votes for Natty Boh?

The Coors-SAB Miller thing was a joint marketing project; they are co-operating but did not merge to the best of my knowledge; rather, it is a joint venture.

Coors is part of Molson Coors, which was formed by the merger of the two breweries. Headquarters are still in Golden, with a "partner headquarters" in Montreal. I guess this makes them an MNC, but hardly a foreign company, unless I am misunderstanding something.

Don't even want to get into the political implications of a Dem administration serving Coors...:^)

I am leaning more and more toward the Liberty Ale idea, FWIW...

I think the the cop should bring a six pack of Beck's or Red Stripe, the proffessor should bring a six pack of blue moon and the Prez should sit back and enjoy whatever they are drinking (or he could bring a six of Colt45). who cares where its brewed all the big american brewers are foriegn owned anyway!

I agree with the no-brainer compromise someone already suggested: Sam Adams or, Pete's Wicked Ale (surely the Texans would approve), however, a black and tan would be perfect (Guinness with Bass Ale) imho, especially given O'Bama's Irish Heritage - ;)

I think what people don't understand is that everyone says things the wrong way. It's just that when the President does it, the consequences are amplified by a million. Wouldn't it be nice if we could solve more problems like this though?
