S: a Korean beer with fiber

What do you want from a beer? Hops? Malt? A pleasant buzz?

The folks at Hite Brewery  in South Korea think their customers also want dietary fiber from their suds.

My friend Michael sent me a press release from Hite that touts the dietary fiber in their brand of beer called S.

According to the missive, S beer has 1.65 grams of fiber in each 330-milliliter (11-ounce)  bottle of S.

Fiber, the brewery says, is so popular these days that it is known as the "sixth nutrient." Who knew?

Moreover, the press release details the benefits of what goes on in your gut.

"Dietary fiber is known to enhance intestine movement to help people keep in shape and prevent the hardening of arteries by lowering cholesterol in the blood. The recommended daily dietary fiber allowance for Koreans ranges from 20g to 25g. Koreans’ average intake is 17.3g, which means 3-8g of more dietary fiber a day is needed (source: 7th revision of the recommended daily dietary allowance for Koreans, The Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition). S contains 1.65g dietary fiber per 330ml bottle."

So in other words, if the average Korean drinks two bottles of S, he will probably meet his daily fiber requirement.

The American Heart Association recommends eating whole grains and vegetables like cabbage to get the fiber you need. It does not mention beer.

Hite's S beer is not sold in Maryland. So, I guess I will have to get my fiber from broccoli not beer.

Anyone tasted S?

When you down a beer do you think of it as nutritious? As a balm for your intestines? Or as refreshment?

at 1.65 g per 330 ml bottle - uh, a S Korean would have to drink about 12 bottles for a daily fiber amount of 20 g

- per my personal experience BEER is known to enhance intestine movement, at least for me...I think for many others also...

-what is the fiber content of regular budweiser/ for comparison (it is probably fairly low, way less than 1.6g's)

(Your math is right if the S. Korean only got his fiber from beer. But the Hite folk figure that the average S. Korean gets 17 grams of fiber from his normal diet and the beers ( 2 at 1.6 grams ) could fill in the gap to get to 20. Don't know the fiber content of Bud. Rob)
