Beer that you drink with goat, and other dishes

Taiwan beerI'm back in Baltimore after about two weeks in Taiwan.  Thanks to all the guest bloggers who kept things bubbling while I was gone.

I ate remarkably well while in Taiwan.  Almost every night, my wife and I were treated to a Chinese banquet of 10 dishes.

I ate, among other things, fiddlehead ferns, goat meat and 10,000 types of  mushrooms. All were exceptionally fresh and flavorful. Unlike much of the Chinese food found in America, it was not cloaked in sweet and sour sauce.

The beverages matched with the food were less interesting.

The wines were primarily red and too tannic for me. The teas from Taiwan, mostly green teas, were wonderful. The beer ... well, the one I drank over and over again was Taiwan Beer.

It is similar to Heineken. Not a lot of body or hops, but it went pretty well with Chinese fare.

It was always served in short shot glasses. This helped with the toasting, which like the courses, usually numbered 12 per meal.

All in all, a great eating trip, and pleasant, if not exceptional beer.

Anyone else familiar with Taiwan Beer? There is a  pro basketball team that carries the name of the beer.

Maybe we should do that here. Rename the Washington Wizards, The Flying Dogs or the The Clipper City Hons.

What is your favorite beer to drink when eating Chinese food?

Taiwan Beer sounds very familiar to Tsingtao which is what I normally drink with Chinese food when I am in a restaurant. At home I drink Victory Pilsner.

Welcome back,

I usually go with a Pilsner with Chinese food. I dont want the beer to over come the food.
