What is a Flying Mouflan?

It is a terrific beer. But what does the name mean?

I am talking about Flying Mouflan, the hop bomb recently released by Troegs Craft Brewery of  Harrisburg, Pa.

I had split a bottle (1 pint 6 ounces) Sunday afternoon with my older son after a long, windy bike ride to Lake Roland. It was bliss. Made me forget my aching muscles.

review in the Beer Advocate said it tasted "like candied hops," and darn if I don't agree.

John Trogner, who along with his brother Chris runs Troegs, describes Flying Mouflan as pushing its fellow Troegs brew Nugget Nectar  "off the side of a cliff.” This sounds like sibling rivalry among the family of beers, or Macbeth comes to a brewery.

Anyway, it is quite a beer, sweet and hoppy at the same time.  It packs 9.3 percent ABV. I sipped it as I watched Tiger and Phil miss putts at the Masters. For a while they played golf like real people.

As for the name of the beer, the Troegs web site said it was "dubbed the Flying Mouflan for reasons that become clearer toward the bottom of the glass."

I drained my glass but missed the message.

A mouflan is a type of small wild European sheep.

I have a call into Troegs to ask, what is a Flying Mouflon?
Anybody got a clue?

Anybody had this beer?

Howsabout  the other Troegs brews?

I'm a huge fan of Nugget Nectar and have heard about Flying Mouflan from a few other beer blogs. Any idea if this is under a limited release and where I can pick up a bottle?

Rob,
Picked up a bottle a week or two ago at Kclinger's in Hanover PA and put it down in the cellar. Picked up two more bottles Friday (one I'll cellar and the other have real soon) at Wells where they had three cases but they were going fast. Really like the Troeggenator and some other Troegg's offerings that Kclingers usually has on tap.

I picked up a couple at The Wine Source in Hamden.

It was very tasty but sweeter than I expected. Nugget Nectar is still my favorite from Troegs.

I called up Wells after work today and found out they only have 4 bottles left. I got two of those, so be forewarned there aren't many left.
