Beet Beer: I shouldn't like it, but...

I don't like beets, but strange as it seems  I liked Wacko Magic Hat's Summer Seasonal.

It is made with hops, malt, and are you ready for this .... beet juice.  The juice adds color, and the shade of the beer reminds me of blanc de noir champagne.

It is malty and has a slight sweetness. About 4.5 percent ABV. It is part of the Magic Hat summer seasonal 12 pack.

My 28-year-old son, however, did not care for Wacko. Too sweet, he said.

Instead he preferred the Odd Notion, a Belgian Blonde . It is made with Pale and Apollo and Crystal hops, with an ABV of 5.9 percent. It is another Summer Seasonal from the folks at Magic Hat.

The Magic Hat website has a handy SipCode  feature to show stores that sell the product. You simply type in the zipcode.

What do you think of these beers?
Are you pro-beet beer or again-it?

Where do you stand on Odd Notion?

I love Magic Hat and I like beets OK but the idea of those things together kind of gives me the willies.

I love the Summer Seasonal. I was so excited to see it came out that I didn't even realize beets were involved before I gave it a try. Definitely notice it in the color, but the taste is amazing (this coming from someone who wouldn't eat a beat to save his life under other circumstances).

I got mine from the Loading Dock which is at the intersection of Chester, Eastern and Boston St between Canton and Fells Point.

The beet is a sugarbeet, grown commercially for sugar production. The color is artificial.

Rob:

Did you check out the Maryland Beer/Wine Fest at Pimlico yesterday or the Beer Fest at Ripken Stadium?( Did not make it, Any reports on the state of those suds? Rob)

I like some Magic Hat beers, #9 & Lucky Kat, but this one should've stayed in Vermont. I had a few in a sampler pack and I was not impressed.
