Ballpark draft beer
Went to Camden Yards on opening day, and --imagine this--drank beer. I was not alone.
Went to my usual spot, the Maryland microbrew stand on Eutaw Street, for a 16-ounce draft. Among the four beers on draft there was a Heineken. (Which last time I looked was being brewed in Holland.) The other three were a Flying Dog, Clipper City Gold and Fordham Copperhead Ale.
I had a Copperhead. Good carmel notes, not much head, but satisfying. It measured 42 degrees on my instant -read thermometer.
The new price is $6.75, up 25 cents from last year.
Other tap brews I saw in my travels: In the BudLite Warehouse in addition to its namesake, I saw Budweiser, Stella Artois and Shock Top Wheat on tap. On the club level I saw Killian, Samuel Adams, Leinenkugel on tap. In the left field upper deck I saw some Miller on draft. Behind home plate on the ground floor, the Guinness stand had Guinness and Harp.
Did I miss any tap beers at the ballpark?
What did you sip on opening day?
What is your opinion of the state of ballpark beers?

I watched from home but I had Clay Pipe's Pursuit of Happiness. I like to drink something local on opening day and hope it leads to a good season.

I believe in the past I've had Smithwicks and Dos Equis on tap at OPACY, though I could be wrong about the Smithwicks.
Honestly, from what I've read in a rival publication it sounds like the Nationals have a better beer selection this semester, including Dogfish 90 Minutes.

Rob:
At the micro cart, there was an operational issue, which has since been fixed, and Wild Goose IPA will be flowing the rest of the season.

Rob, It's a travesty that we don't have real representation from more of our region's brewers and it's not the fault of the brewers. It all comes down to $$$ and Aramark simply has total control. At one time we had CC, Olivers, Brewers Art, Wild Goose, Fordham, ClayPipe and others at every micro stand. Now only the big boys can play and it's truly a shame. I love both CC and F Dog but a nice Oliver's Best Bitter or Brewers Art Proletary Ale thrown into the mix would give me one more reason to take pride in B'more and perhaps ease the pain of the last 10+ years of O's baseball. Here's to hope that both the selections and the team improve. One can dream....BTW, opening day was spent at Mahaffey's sipping multiple 3'fers (try the Whitemarsh ESB) and $1 Sliders. What a game!

OPACY was one of the first places around to get "smittick's" I will be truly disappointed if they don't have it this year.

Dominic:
You are half right. It is $$$, but its not Aramark. Guess who...

MC - who?
I'll be speaking with the head of PR tomorrow for Aramark concerning the beer selection at Camden Yards..... prices... etc. Stay tuned.

What about the great beers from Brimstone Brewing?
Blueberry porter, Irish Wake Stout, and other great beers, made in downtown Baltimore.

Guess who's responding or guess who's controlling our God given right to enjoy a variety of craft brew at nearly $7 a pop?

Thanks for the mention, Dominic! I fondly remember having a DeGroen's Maibock at the park back in 1995 or so, when they were still the "Maryland Microbrew" stands run by Karl Schenk.
Unfortunately, we (Brewer's Art) are not in a position to brew the quantities that the stadium demands, nor are we able to give them a price that they require. I am glad we can at least get Clipper City products. And IIRC, Brimstone was made in Canton/Highlandtown, not downtown! ;^)
(It should be noted that a 16 oz Clipper City at the microbrew stands costs the same as a Miller Lite in the seats.)
Cheers,
V

I love microbrews, went to the Pratt St. Alehouse after the game and had a couple in fact, but beer prices at the park are so inflated, I'm not paying more than $7 one beer. Paying for one beer shouldn't cost the same as paying for parking. Still, I love this blog.
