Rob Kasper, a features columnist, has been writing about beer for 20 years, and he remembers when Anchor Christmas and Noche Buena were about the only beers at a holiday tasting and Sisson’s was the only brewpub in Baltimore. A collection of his columns, "Raising Kids and Tomatoes, Amusing Tales and Appetizing Recipes," was published in 1998. He lives with his wife, Judith, a professor at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, in a downtown Baltimore rowhouse. They have two grown sons, who come home from time to time and drink their father’s beer.

My vote goes to Stone's Aug. 8, 2008 release of Vertical Epic Ale.
Runners-up would be Victory V12, Stone's Oaked Arrogant Bastard and 2006 (2008 release) Fuller's special craft ale.
BA's Resi has my unspoken vote every weekend, bottled or draft.

Top of my head, Brewer's Art Nein! Kolsch-style beer. It was splendid.

My vote is for either Dales Pale Ale or Stoudts Double IPA.

Hi, Rob. Several beers were standouts (and new encounters) for me: Phin & Matt's Extraordinary Ale, from Southern Tier; Stoudt's American Pale Ale; Amish Four Grain, from Lancaster; Erdinger Oktberfest Weizen; and mad Elf Holiday Ale, from Troeg's. I know there were more, but can't think of them at the moment.
Best of all, though, was discovering Dale's Pale Ale, from Oskar Blues in Colorado. Who knew canned beer could taste so good!
Here's hoping for even more discoveries in 2009. Thanks for all the great articles and posts. Cheers!

I second the nomination of Resurrection in a bottle. Though, my one caveat is to see if it has any staying power beyond the novelty factor.

Clipper City's Winter Storm Warning

I'd say Odd Notion by Magic Hat.

"I'd say Odd Notion by Magic Hat."
Which one? "Odd Notion" is simply the branding given to each of Magic Hat's four distinct seasonals.

I'd say "Clipper City's Winter Storm Warning" but they mislabelled it, it's a young Barleywine. So I'll go with Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout.
