Christmas beer surprises; Kansas City beer predicts Ravens win

In answer to Matt's question about holiday beers that I was surprised I did not pick in the tasting, the short answer is yes.

Snow Goose is a usual favorite that I did not select, and Sierra Nevada Celebration is another. Can't be sure why they did not make my cut. We were picking exceptional beers, and these, I surmise, were well made, but for some reason did not ring my bell.

In honor of my visit to snowy Kansas City, I chose a KC beer, Boulevard Bully Porter, to spin to see how the Ravens would fare against the Bengals.

Boulevard Bully Porter correctly predicted a Ravens win. It is, by the way, a fine brew.

Anyone else had a chance  to taste Boulevard beers?

I am back in Baltimore and will blog soon about my tour of Anheuser-Busch in St.  Louis.

Was impressed with the Michelob operation, and the AB effort to brew more craft  beers.

I know a number of people from KC and environs, and they are all quite smitten with Boulevard beers. I've tried several of them and think they're generally quite good. It's a good local brewery that makes good, though by no means outstanding, beers. Given the price point I think they're kind of like a Missouri Yuengling, but with a little more variety in offerings.

We tasted several Boulevard products up at the Mondial de la Biere in Montreal earlier this year. We were very impressed with their whole line and the brewer was possibly looking into distribution this way, but as you know that takes a lot of time.

I used to date a girl out in KC, and we had a number of Boulevards together. I like their unfiltered wheat quite a bit.

Had Boulevard when visiting KC last year. Just ok. Wouldn't compare to Yuengling however. More like Great Lakes in Ohio.

Will the merger with InBev bring any changes / more Belgium beers to the US? I have to give them credit, they are at least trying to come up with beer that has more character / taste than Bud does. (Although I'd take a Bud Light Lime over Corona any day.) Anyone remember Michelob Dark years ago?

Boulevard is currently producing a Smokestack series that includes bigger beers like a Belgian Quad, Belgian Tripel, Saison (with and without brettanomyces) and an IPA. All are worth checking out. I am a big fan.
