Missing beer alert: Have you spotted this elusive foreigner?
Doug Neils of Timonium is missing a favorite beer. He writes:
"One of my all time favorite European beers has disappeared from the Baltimore market. Kronenburg 1664. from (Strasbourg), France. Not many liquor stores carried it to begin with but I’ve been unable to find it any where for the last 2 months. I was wondering if you might know the story on its disappearance."
I am clueless. But I promised Doug I would send out a missing beer alert.
Anybody seen this beer?
If so, send any info on its whereabouts -- store, location and price -- to this blog.
We strive to serve and protect the beer drinkers of Maryland.

Carlsberg bought the Kronenbourg brand earlier this year. Maybe that has put a glitch in its US distribution.

Not sure about in the U.S., but Kronenbourg 1664 is widely available in the UK. A bit baffled that it could be a "favorite European beer" though. Maybe favorite European macro lager.

Maybe try Carpe Vinum in Ellicott City. They carry primarily (if not exclusively) hard to find obscure-fancy beer and wines.

You can find it on tap occasionally at The Judge's Bench in downtown Ellicott City. They also feature the bottle in their bottled beer menu.
They are also licensed to sell carry-out beers, so customers can pick up an individual bottle or a six pack or whatever of whatever is carried there including Kronenburg -- cold!

I also recommend a trip to The Perfect Pour in Columbia, they have a decent European beer selection and although I don't remember seeing it there I'd be fairly surprised if they didn't carry it or could order it.

I used to drink 1664 and I got it at the corner liquor store at Ridgely Plaza in Lutherville. Try calling them and seeing what the story is.

Not sure about where to get a six, but Max's in Fell's point claims on their Web site to carry it on tap - http://www.maxs.com/
I would advise calling ahead to confirm.
If I hear about a store that carries it, I will let you know.

Enjoyes this one during my college days as an evening/weekend emloyee of Milford Liquors. Move to Loas Angeles n 79 and have been enoying this brew on tap at Barney's Beanery. It's a little harder to find in bottles but I have coem across it now and again.

It is not being imported right now from what I have heard.

Just spoke to my F.P. Winner rep (the old distributor) who told me that it has been transferred to Republic National. You could call them to confirm and find out where you can buy at 410.724.3310.
However, it's not listed at all in the Maryland Beverage Journal, which is never a good sign for availability.
Good Luck!

Its in a liquor store down here, if that helps. Kelley's just expanded their already fairly wide selection of imports and microbrews, and 1664 is one of them.
They have a Polish ale that I might try next.

I still drink 1664 often. The nice folks at The Old Vine on Falls Rd. in Mt. Washington always keep the cooler stocked with at least a case or two.

Saw 3 x 6 packs of it in the cooler at Cranbrook Liquors yesterday. Was lucky to pick up the last 6 of Old Chub, and lovingly eyed the Mad Elf and Sierra Nevada Winter, but I try to hold off until Thanksgiving to start on the Christmas brews.
