More thoughts on hunting beer

I am impressed with the all the stores folks have sent in as good places to buy better beer. One I want to add is The Wine Merchant on Falls Road in Lutherville.

We seem to have shortage of spots in west Baltimore.

Any store there we are missing? When we finish sending in suggestions, I will post a list.

West and NW Baltimore has less than zero good spots for quality brews. There is a good bottleshop in Westminister on 140, but can't remember the name.
A potential missed business opportunity?

I don't have any more stores to post other than what I put or what anyone else put, but it never hurts asking a liquor store if they can order something for you. A store may not have a big craft beer selection, but if you become friendly with the owners/employees they might go the extra mile for a good customer.

I still think the best place to get the absolute best beer is direct from the brewer. Imported bottled beers are fun, sure - but better beer is local, high quality and fresh.

Not sure of the name of the place. Used to be a grocery store just inside the beltway on Frederick Road (exit 13) called "The Store" and now it is a liquor store. I have heard that they have a good beer selection. Anyone know more?

Shawan Liquors on York Rd. in Hunt Valley has a great selection and a very knowledgeable staff. In Bel Air, try Ronnie's or Jim's Bottleworks.

I just stopped by the shop on Frederick Road in Paradise/Catonsville mentioned by TS; it's certainly no Wells, but it might do in a pinch (for example, Clipper City but no Wild Goose, Dogfish Head but no Dominion). They claim to be responsive to customer queries, so if a whole bunch of thirsty Westsiders start stopping in and asking for better beers, it has potential. Otherwise, my default for this "side" of town remains Super Cut Rate on Rt. 40, which seems at times to have one six-pack of everything, if you can find it......

Has Midway Liquors in Joppa been mentioned? Beltway Liquors on Loch Raven & the Beltway?
