Flying Dog Points To a Ravens Victory

Th folks at Flying Dog Brewery sent out word recently that they are going to move all of their brewing operations from Denver to Frederick by January.

Up to now, about 70 percent of their volume  has been brewed in Maryland. Eric Warner, the top dog of brewery, said that the primary reason for the move was that the Maryland facility is newer and in better shape than their Denver digs. For instance, he said, the bottling line in Frederick produces 250 bottles per minute, compared to 140 bottles per minute at the Denver facility .

I wish them well. The Frederick brewery has had several owners and at one point it was even going to brew National Premium.

In honor of Flying Dog’s full-scale move to Maryland, I spun a bottle of one of their beers, the K-9 Cruiser Winter Ale, to predict the outcome of this week’s Ravens-Dolphins game.

The K-9 Winter Ale is malty and sweet with caramel notes. I regarded it as rich reward to myself for being a reasonably good boy. The spinning Flying Dog, brewed in Frederick, predicted a Ravens win.

Anybody else like this beer? Any opinions about the other Flying Dog brews?

From what i read, there is some sad people Flying Dog is moving out

Those in Denver are sad to see it go, but as one that lives in Frederick and has toured the brewery more times than I can count, I am excited! All of their beers are top-notch. Old Scratch and Tire Bite are probably their two most well known. Also, their Hefeweizen is terrific.
I hope that they keep up with their production of Wild Goose and that they bring back some Blue Ridge brews.

great news that flying dog's full production will be in frederick! i really enjoy their brews. Wish they could be talked into brewing national premium (mchenry does not taste like the national premium i remember)

I had it at the Brewers Art Holiday tasting last weekend and thought it was failry malty and reasonably well balanced, but I probably wouldn't buy a six pack of it. As for spinning for the winners, I think it's time to switch to bourbon... duller senses may make it seem like the Ravens are actually competing.

I like the Double Dog Double IPA.

I'm with Dominic. The spinning the bottle seems to only work for kissing games not Ravens games. I'd switch to rum though.

No, no, no--switch to Pikesville Rye Whiskey!

Drank the K-9 cruiser w/ chili @ Hard Times Cafe in College Park. Great combo, very good beer. Reminded me a little of Sierra Nevada Celebration.

How about doing it "Elvis style" for the next game and break a bottle of beer over the tv?? Not a good beer though! Actually I don't think the Ravens are worth all that trouble anymore. :O(
