What bands would you like to see at Virgin FreeFest 2011?

freefest%20is%20back.JPG Virgin Mobile sent around a cryptic mass e-mail last week vaguely alluding to the return of its annual music festival here in Maryland.

It doesn't say when FreeFest will return or where it'll be held or if it'll stay free again this year. Underneath the bold banner "FreeFest is back" it just says, "Like us on Facebook for exclusive updates." How conveniently synergistic.

IMP, the concert promoter that handles the festival, didn't respond to questions about the e-mailed tease; SXSW is likely to blame.

The e-mail, though, suggests an announcement of some kind is imminent. Most likely, it'll be a confirmation that the festival will return to Merriweather Post Pavilion. That's what happened around this time last year.

While the line-up probably won't be announced until early summer, most likely around July, it's time to come up with your fantasy line-up.

Who would you like to see at Virgin Mobile FreeFest this year? Me? I would settle for a quiet, low-key pairing of Janelle Monae and Prince.

See pictures, reviews and more Virgin Mobile FreeFest info at The Baltimore Sun's Virgin Mobile FreeFest page.

PLEEEEEAAAAASSSSE IMP/Virgin, with frigging sugar on top, bring PEARL JAM back to Merriweather!!!!! They've headlined at least one other Virgin Fest, I think in Canada, so why not have them here? They're still an amazing live act and packed the house when they used to play Merriweather, maybe like 3 straight summer tours.

Before commenting, please realize that nobody is going to read your suggestion or take it seriously. The Sun staff will make a photo gallery of some of the suggestions at the end. That's it

@cynic: (mind blown) your foresight unnerves me. I dont know if IMP takes readers' suggestions seriously - maybe they do! last year there were a lot - but this is still a fun exercise.

@Fells Pt Dad. i dont know if Pearl Jam will come; they're not on tour. But! playing the joan-jett-old-favorite role this year, might be Duran Duran. They've been doing the festival circuit.

Bill's Lighthouse is officially closed now? I was just thinking about getting carry out from there tonight! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The Beatles

@KG: Bill Wedemeyer's widow sold the bar to another restaurant group; the liquor license was transferred two weeks ago. They haven't told me yet when they're opening.

THE DARKNESS!!!

I have been to all of the Virgin Festivals so far except the first FreeFest with Weezer at Merriweather and it is my favorite concert event every year whether it was at Pimlico or Marriweather.

I would love to see The National and Death Cab for sure.

Local Natives and Cut Copy would be great.

Also, would be nice to have Ben Harper, Jack Johnson and Wilco back. As long as I'm dreaming, right?

How about MMJ?
