Update on the new Taps, Catherine's Pub
It was just two weeks ago that renovations started at the new Taps, Catherine's Pub. How are things going?
A reader, Beer in Baltimore's Alexander Mitchell IV, sends in this picture at right.
Just like Chris Reda said, the new owners are sticking to exterior changes, and pretty big ones it seems. Let's see if the January opening ends up happening.
Catherine's will be an Irish Pub; Reda said hours of operations haven't been decided on yet, and neither has a bottled beer list.
(He and Marc McFaul bought the 4,000-square-foot property and the business for $450,000 in August, after Taps, which had been there for two years, closed.)

It looks like the sign at the top of the building says "Chattsmen Club."

It says Craftsmen Club, the building originally housed that organization. It was like a union social club.

The exterior is being painted by local artist Marshall Adams. He has murals all over the country - check him out... http://www.marshalladams.com

the front looks really nice, the yellow on the side, not as much, but then again that could be a primer. The windows look great and should be a nice addition to the community.

Also they painted over the palm tree with the raven on the side from the Fort Charles Pub days, which sucks, and destroyed a bunch of the molding where the scaffolding is poking through. It does look really nice so far otherwise however.
Does anyone have any literature on the Craftsmen Club? I'm Xtremely interested in its history

Erik, You haven't mentioned the Mix-Off tonight at Don't Know. Any reason?
Posted by: Roger | December 13, 2010 5:23 PM
@roger: putting it together was harder than I thought; will write at length about this tomorrow too. Short story: no mix-off, but will have a Midnight Sun mix-er! next month

Here's Chris Reda on Taps/Catherine's Pub/Delia Foley's: "We would sell if someone was interested." http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/midnight_sun/blog/2010/12/catherines_pub_the_new_taps_li.html

"we would sell if someone was interested"
I wonder if they either discovered something wrong with the building or their business plan?
or do they not just want the headache, however if anybody can do it they can...
