Indies score over half of Grammy nominations for first time
More surprises from the Grammys. Arcade Fire wasn't the only indie band to snag a Grammy nomination last week. In fact, the Canadians' nomination for best album of the year was one of 273 indie artists and record labels received, the first time independent releases have taken up over 50 percent of the nominations. A2IM, a trade group that follows the independent music industry, perceptively pointed out the landmark last week. At least in this regard, the Grammys reflect an actual industry trend: the passing of the major record labels. Maybe this makes up for Janelle Monae, Big Boi and Sade being (mostly) ignored.

no one cares about the grammys. They are a joke.
