How are there no entries on the newly opened bars along the Fort Ave corridor? Both Barracudas and Five Points have been opened for over a month and neither have been covered on this blog. Where is that Sessa guy when you need him?

@sobo Bob - You may want to check out Dining @ Large, he does a better job of covering that stuff at this point. He didn't do anything on Fort but he did cover Tangiers re-opening as Hollywoods and the Diablita Cantina news.
Obviously bar stuff isn the focus over there but it's better than whatever this has become.

@cox, you know for someone who hates the blog so much you sure seem to comment a lot.
Anyway, @sobo bob, for every Five Points, there's a Catherine's Pub (http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/midnight_sun/blog/2010/11/federal_hills_taps_now_called.html), and for every Barracudas there's a Park Bench (http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/midnight_sun/blog/2010/11/new_bar_the_park_bench_opens_i.html) or a Bill's Lighthouse auction (http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/midnight_sun/blog/2010/11/bills_lighthouse_inn_in_south_b.html)
Remember, I typically write about five print stories a week, in addition to manning the blog, and writing for other sections of the paper. Some things will inevitably not be written about right away, though, if you send me an email, I will always follow-up. I will eventually get to those places.
(Not to be a stickler, but totally being a stickler: Tangiers and Diablita were more restaurants than bars.)
Anyway, thanks for reading. A review of the Park Bench should be posted shortly. And! I invite you both to come to the Midnight Sun Mix-Off.

Mexa, you have a point, if I dislike your blog so much, why should I keep posting? The easy answer would be that I have a job where I get paid a lot of money to do very little and as such have a good bit of free time on my hands to post on blogs. But the real answer has more to do with frustration with my hometown’s only newspaper.
How have things gotten so bad where you are acceptable? You see Midnight sun isn’t about just the writer, it’s about the community of posters. A community your douchebaggery has killed off with your terrible excuse for journalism and sad obsession with garbage music and magic shows. It really bothers me that we could be stuck with a writer who is so bad that I would lose that circle of local intellectuals whom I value talking to every day.
I could probably go on but I wont’. If you don’t like Baltimore than do everyone a favor and leave. Don’t continue this charade any further. Get a job covering raves for the Washington Post.

I have a better idea, "Mr. Cox"--YOU take over the job Mr. Maza is doing, since you seem to think you can do it so much better. Oh, and do it for his pay.

Erik, I don’t think you realize just how many people are looking forward to meeting you.
Not sure why you chose to host the Mix-Off during a Ravens game though.

Agree with ADMIV
Apparently there is a huge desire for a blog about bars in Baltimore. Whoever starts one up will, apparently, have a massive readership of pissed off Midnight Sunners.
Dr Cox, since you have so much free time, give it a whirl.

deleting comments with constructive criticism now, are we?

yeah, mine appears to ahve been deleted. A little disappointed. I hope it was a tech error on my part

"A community your douchebaggery has killed off with your terrible excuse for journalism and sad obsession with garbage music and magic shows. It really bothers me that we could be stuck with a writer who is so bad..."
douchebaggery??? Gee Dr. Cox, tell us what you really think.
Shrug. Most of what Erik writes about doesn't interest me either, but I kind of figure that has more to do with my age and the obvious demographic he's aiming at as opposed to any "douchebaggery" tendencies on his part. Also, while I have likewise had some issues with some of his stories, I also realize that he's fairly new to the job and still feeling his way as the Sun's entertainment writer/journalist. So I'm willing to cut him some slack, even if I still register a complaint when he says or does something I think merits a complaint.
Personally, I take Erik's entertainment stories for what they are... informal announcements and reviews that we should all take with a grain of salt. Not really sure I've ever seen anything from Mr. Maza that merits the kind of reaction your post response implies.

We got confirmation the DuClaw owner, shortly after this one sold out, that a 2nd one is currently in the works. Details coming soon.

Ahh, I love the smell of relevance in the... afternoon.

You mean you got confirmation from another blog that got the news up over twelve hours before you "just" got that confirmation? One that, by the way, that has been covering craft beer in Baltimore and the region for nearly three years?
As Sessa would have said, "Tee hee."
Said blog (http://beerinbaltimore.blogspot.com) chooses not to cover sports bars, or the nightlife music scene, or cocktails/wine/spirits, or the latest Bud/Miller/PBR/Natty Boh promos,so there's still a lot left for "Mr. Cox" to cover if he so chooses.

Didn't we leave "mine is bigger than yours" in 1st grade? Talk about douchebaggery.
Posted by: Dave F. | December 3, 2010 9:43 AM
@ Alexander D. Mitchell IV - confirmation came from an email I received from David and Caitlin, the minute after it sold out.
Wow, could you be any more of an a****?
And you wonder why no one reads your site anymore. And i's not just the ones who've had the unfortunate experience of meeting you in person anymore either.
P.S: are you allowed in Max's anymore?
Posted by: BeerInBaltimore.com | December 3, 2010 1:59 PM
It's a brunch. Who cares? Though I'm with Beerinbaltimore.com on this one. This Alexander guy IS an a__hole. The first time I saw him, a friend and I were at Max's in Fells Point. He was there taking pictures of God knows what, bumping in to people and grabbing people's unfinished beer glasses and putting his nose in them. I asked my buddy what's with the old homeless deaf guy and he told me that it was Alexander and that he is some sort of photographer and blogs about beer. I know that he ever bothered me like I saw him doing to other people and stuck his dirty mustache in my beer glass, I'd punch him in the face.
Oh and Alexander, George W Bush was in the White House for 8 years. Doesn't make him any less of a retarded baffoon.

"You mean you got confirmation from another blog that got the news up over twelve hours before you "just" got that confirmation? One that, by the way, that has been covering craft beer in Baltimore and the region for nearly three years?"
Aside from being very childish, isn't that a tad hypocritical and disingenuous to point out of Midnight Sun since Maza has read, than re-reported from your blog 6 times in the last month?
By the way, I can only confirm, not refute anything Brad or Tim have said here.
I must disclose I know Brad from the same beer geekery circles as yourself, Sandy. I do not know Tim.
I can say we have had some conversations that started to go well, but in the end I always feel like all you've done is go out of your way to insult me.
You do know your stuff, report on beer news/issues in town quickly and knowledgeably, and you have done a bunch of important things to make this town more craft beer friendly and spread the gospel of Baltimore Beer nationwide, enough to even be a beer geek destination.
But man.
Sometimes, you are just a straight up ass.

@ Alexander D. Mitchell IV - Get over it, you aren't the only beer blog that focuses on Baltimore. Guess what? Competition is good, it forces you to step up your game and write better articles for your blog.
We get it that you were Beer In Baltimore first and you know what? Who cares? You should have bought the domain when you had the chance quit crying about it. Your constant whining that you are the “original” is really just sad.
I have to tell you sir, I’ve had the misfortune of meeting you on numerous occasions and you are a flat out jerk. You grab people’s beers without asking, you interrupt people who are talking, you shove people out of the way to take photos and you have the tendency to get close to falling down drunk.
You know what the worst part is about all you negative traits? It is that people actually want to like you. You know a lot about beer, you have a talent for writing and you are a great photographer but you are a full on douche.
As someone who also enjoys trains I just want to point out that you, Mr Mitchell are just as much of a jerk in the train world as you are in the beer world.

can't we all just get along, a lot of hate on the blog lately. Maybe we can all get together and have a few drinks together and hang out.
