Baltimore bars with splenda mojitos?
Sorry I haven't been around much lately, gang. I'm technically on vacation, but blogs being blogs, I'm never really "on vacation" unless I leave the country.
Anyway, I'm planning on officially announcing the winner of the Resurrection Can Photoshop Contest when I get back on Tuesday, although it's pretty clear who the winner is going to be.
In other news, Amie wants to know if there are any Baltimore bars who make mojitos with Splenda instead of cane sugar/simple syrup.
To me, this sounds like a no-brainer. It would make the delicious summer drink (nearly) calorie free.
I'll bet tons of people would buy them, and it wouldn't take that much more effort to make ...
I'll admit -- I could call a bunch of bars and try to find some that might offer this, but I'm on vacation and therefore too lazy. But in my five years of covering Baltimore nightlife, I've consumed countless mojitos, and never come across ones with fake sugar in them.
If no one in Baltimore has thought of this already and starts offering them because of this post, I want a cut of the profits, by the way. Just sayin.

I would love to see you going to Havanas and ask for one during a Friday happy hour. I can only imagine the look on their face and their comments. It does sound good though!

While this would indeed be less calories, Splenda doesn't sound very appetizing to me in a mojito. At all.
However, I'd be willing to give it a shot. A mind is like a parachute. It only functions when open. Like a fish needs a bicycle.

1 oz White Rum = 52 calories(About.com)
Avg Mojito 2-3 Oz Rum (depending your bartender)
Avg Mojito calories withOUT sugar = 104-156
I'd hardly call that (nearly) calrie free.

The Place Lounge 315 W. Franklin makes them with sugar packets. I've seen them use Splenda.

They made me one and charged the same price @ Little Havana one time a few years ago...

That's the way I make them for myself! I'm sure just about any bar could make them that way on request.
Lebanese Taverna definitely can do them. Tonight's going to be perfect night to stop by for one (shameless plug). Happy hour starts at 9pm and goes to 1am and the mojitos are $5. Dj Gray will also be playing some summer love starting around 10.
The Khamria (Lebanese sangria) is also tasting pretty fantastic.

Is this a place where we can ask if anyone knows any bars in Baltimore that______________________?
For the past few days, I've been tuning in to the live feeds from the BP mini-subs fixing the oil leak. Since I'm an engineer and a geek, I find them quite entertaining and I'm happy to sit at home and watch the saw blades and robo arms all night long. But, I'd also like to go out, so are there any bars in Baltimore that show the BP feeds on TVs?

Whadaya mean, it's clear who the winner is gonna be? Ya gotta rip open all those absentee votes, verify valid registrations, hold up all those hanging chads to divine "voter intent," etc.
Better bring back some chicken entrails and a dowsing rod to help the process.

True, a mojito made with Splenda would have fewer calories....but then it would taste like Splenda. I'll pass, thanks.

There are 15 calories in a packet of sugar, Man up, Shirley.
If you made me a Mojito with fake chemical girly sugar, I would stab stab stab you in the heart with your man-parasol.

I hear you, Ernie.
Does that also go for Sam's fave 'saccharine daiquiri' ?
Just askin.

I'm pretty sure ANYONE who goes up to a bartender and asks for a mojito made with Splenda deserves a slap and the scorn of everyone in the bar.

Baja Bob's makes sugar free dink mixers for the calorie counter or the diabetic who still likes to drink. They have a mojito mix and I love the sugar free pina colada. Wish some bars would stock it. I think they would do more business.
