Confirmed: HFStival to return to Merriweather Post Pavilion Sept. 18
After a four-year hiatus, the HFStival will return to Merriweather Post Pavilion Sept. 18, officials confirmed today.
The lineup for the festival, an annual staple in the region's live music scene for more than a decade, is still TBA.
But if rumors are true, the lineup could include Billy Idol,Third-Eye Blind, Fuel, Marcy Playground and Better Than Ezra.
Tickets will go on sale May 28.
Though HFS no longer exists as a terrestrial radio station, it continues to stream online and broadcast on 94.7's HD2 channel. I'll post more when I know more.

I loved HFStival and have many many many memories but just let it die.

Why live in the musical past? WHFS was great...in the 80's. There are so many great new bands out there...time to move on, kids.

this just goes to show you what headliners you can get when you don't have an actual radio station backing the show and promising to play them up for months beforehand
Posted by: Justin | May 18, 2010 1:28 PM
I guess the only people who wanted to play an HFStival any more were past acts from the last 25 years. Bet they don't even know the radio station is long gone!
Side note: is ANYONE listening to HD-radio?

Sweet! Maybe this means Lilith Fair is returning! I can't wait to see Jewel and Sarah Mclachlan play on the same stage again.

They had a better lineup at the Virgin FreeFest last year. If they charge more than $10 to get in, then you would have to call the sheriff because that's highway robbery

Merriweather should just call WTMD and have them book some bands for them. The TMD Festival has a nice ring to it.

Man, what a horrible lineup. At least have a band like the Chili Peppers headline and then bring in the Killers, Audioslave, Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach... that would be an ideal day. But Billy Idol and Third Eye Brown? (get it, third eye brown? heee hee hmm hmm) What a waste.

@Brent
Lilith Fair's return was announced a few months back. DC show is Aug. 3, location still "TBA". Tix on sale Saturday.
@Tom
You say that like it's an easy thing to do. Oh lets just line up RHCP, Audioslave, Killers for a festival.

Unreal. Where is Belly, Velocity Girl, Matthew Sweet. FREDTERP
Posted by: FREDTERP | May 18, 2010 3:17 PM
Don't forget Live, They Might Be Giants, Stereo MCs...and on the local side-stage, Jimmy's Chicken Shack

Wow what a crappy lineup! Def not heading down there for that.
Posted by: scott | May 18, 2010 3:40 PM
Kings of Leon and Drake please!
Posted by: Hfstival Fan | May 18, 2010 3:50 PM
@Tom, the Killers broke up a few weeks ago so I would count them out. RHCP are currently out of action for the time being too. ACL announced their lineup a few weeks ago, and personnally I think its pretty weak. Any updates on the VirginMobile Festival? Lineup? Tix pickup date? How they are going to handle giving the tix out?

Wow, the lineup does suck. I hear people saying how bad virgin fest sucked, and I can't help but think....DC 101 Chili cookoff is coming up, and that lineup sucks too!!! It seems like stuff is going down the crapper with these live music festivals.

If we can get just get Veruca Salt, Mazzy Star, The Refreshments, James, The Toadies, Placebo, Semisonic, and The Stereophonics, maybe I'd go. But in my opinion, they got some of the crappier bands from the 90's - a not so stellar decade of music to begin with.

Guys, guys -- remember, this is just the rumored lineup. The official lineup is being announced next week, I hear.

Queensryche, Dinosaur Jr., porno for pyros and Extreme! please.
Posted by: Rube Goldberg | May 18, 2010 4:26 PM
V-Fest did not suck. V-Fest rocked!!
I'd probably pay ($25 ??)to see those bands (again) just to party at Merriweather, but I'll be in OC for DelMarVa Bike Week with 100,000 other people (potential concert goers).

Says a lot about today's music industry when you have a bunch of old retreads lined up to play. Billy Idol? *LMAO*
Posted by: 1968 | May 18, 2010 5:21 PM
I hear Elena Kagan, Janet Napolitano and Barbara Mikulski are playing the Lilith Fair.

John Updyke, you are pathetic and not at all funny.

@Sturmy -- The Killers are not broken up. After 6+ years of constant touring, they are taking a break.
Brandon Flowers has a solo album coming out in the fall (titled "Flamingo") that he says contains songs that were meant for the next Killers album, but since the other guys wanted to be on break, he is going it alone.

Keep in mind ppl that this lineup is a rumor and has no real foundation. If you are familiar with concerts then you would know it takes a long time to finalize everything and sometimes secret bands are not released till very late. Have hope. Hfstival was a great thing and although it lost momentum near the end any festival is appreciated. There are not enough big festivals in the MD,DC,NrthVA,SthPA,NrthDE area. If you don't like the bands don't go or setup your own festival. Don't complain about a situation its almost a waste of time do something about it. Also 98rocks music selection is far from dynamic and the majority of it is poor and/or repetitive. Also lots of commercials. I'm going to buy xm or sirius because dc101 is bad reception where i live in md.(Harco) No good rock stations in area and I might buy a hd radio with sattelite hookup just to hear hfs a legendary station that brought true quality varying music that was a station about the people more than the money. One of the reasons it went under along with the fact that public radio is cutthroat as you can see over the years if you lived in the baltimore area and noticed 98rock leveling any radio rock staions. whew thankyou for reading

Hey Sam, I work at Merriweather and have been told that Virgin Fest is going to be Sept. 25
Posted by: Owen | May 19, 2010 1:25 PM
John Updyke is hilarious!
And HFS was crap even before they got bumped off the air by a Latino station. This lineup id further proof of that.
If you want(ed) progressive alternative then 103.1 RNR (started by former HFSers) and WTMD are your stations.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CANNOT WAIT
LONG LIVE HFSTIVAL
(And Virgin Fest is the very next week...God bless us all)
