I checked out the website of the supposed buyer.. it tries to cater to the "cool" crowd with PBR, tatertots and sushi.
I'd like to think our affections are not so easily purchased.. should have known that the 7-11 was a bad omen.

so sad, but not surprised. was in there last friday, during happy hour, and it was empty. we were the only people in there.
for all who bemoan the close of a local business, did you actually frequent said business? not accusing, just wondering...

One of my favorite bars in Fells Point. Hopefully it won't happen.

Although not always busy, it has a great jukebox, pool table in the back, and character. If I had the money to go out more often, I'd be there once a week. As it is, probably only can make it once every other month. I'm sure I'm not alone and that is why it has come to this.

I love friends and it do not want to see it go. Sticky Rice is a cool spot and would be a welcome addition to Bmore but I'd rather see it go somewhere different then Friends

johnnycat actually likes something?

If Sticky Rice is setting up in Fells Point the space vacated by DuClaws would be a much better fit than the small gloomy space of Friends.
I looked at SR's menu and guess what is conspicuously missing? Yup, sticky rice. They do seem to something resembling Schwetty balls.

Do we really need ANOTHER sushi place in that area? Friends is a dump at least it's my kind of dump

I don't lament the loss of Friends, but I do hope they don't tear out the old beautiful bar. That would be a real shame. It's part of what gives Friends its character.

man, I hope this is just rumor. Friends has always been there for me when I needed it. The last thing we need in that area is a generic hipster sushi joint.

I just walked by Friends at lunchtime and the chalkboard reads that Saturday is the last day. So all you Friends' lovers...take advantage of your last chance at memoirs of the ole watering hole.

in related news, Miss Irene's has a "restaurant space for sale" banner hanging above the door.

I have frequented Friends several times and agree that it is a chill local favorite. Fells Point residence will surely miss it. However, I am also quite familiar with Sticky Rice in Richmond, VA and have to say that all the naysayers have nothing to be leery of. Sticky Rice is a home-grown restaurant with a mellow vibe and offers its patrons creative, yummy and well-priced sushi (and other items). I think it will be warmly welcomed in the Fells community.
