The real Fumbles sports bar
Remember when jmgiordano and I dreamed up the idea for Fumbles, the sports bar for losers?
Our version of Fumbles celebrated famous flubs that cost teams the game. I Googled around and found one other Fumbles, located in Iowa. When I called it, the person who answered the phone was baffled by our idea.
Yesterday, the owner of Fumbles in Iowa e-mailed me with more details about their bar. That's their logo, to the right.
Here is the skinny on the pre-existing Fumbles ...
Dear Mr. Sessa,
My name is Chris Jasper and I am one of the owners of Fumbles Sports Bar in Bettendorf, Iowa.
My wife and I enjoyed your article in the Baltimore Sun and we decided to write to you to tell you a little about our bar. We bought the bar three and a half years ago and we really fumbled to come up with a name, that is how we came up with Fumbles. We are an Iowa Hawkeye bar and we have painted it black and gold to show our support to the Hawks.
When there is a fumble in the Hawkeye games and Iowa recovers the other teams fumble we have half price drinks for the next 5 minutes. If Iowa fumbles and loses the ball all drinks are doubled for the next five minutes.
Needless to say no one orders during this time. We have had a great time with this and our name and we are usually filled during a game.

haha, I love it! That sounds like a really fun place run by people with a good sense of humor. Awesome! If I ever find myself in Iowa (haha yeah right) I know where I am going for a drink.
