What's going on at Sonar?

Anybody know what's going on at Sonar? The main number is disconnected, and the manager hasn't returned a message I left more than a week ago. I've been hearing rumors that the Talking Head Club is teetering on the brink of closure, but haven't been able to confirm them. If you've got some info for me, the e-mail is: sam.sessa@baltsun.com

I just saw Lotus there on Halloween. The show was outstanding, they did a David Bowie theme and had an incredible special guest vocalist by the name of Bridget McCallion.

Anyway, when i tried to buy a ticket around 4:30 last saturday they said their internet was down. Maybe they are just having more communication issues.

Sonar may not be returning calls, but it tweeted at 10:34 a.m.: "Sonar_Baltimore Decibel Magazine's Monsters of Death Tour featuring VADER tonight at 7 PM. See you there."

I just got a Twitter message from them, so that must still work.

maybe you should just walk over there and see if it's open. a little shoe-leather didn't hurt anyone.

Ah, yes, the old "walk over there" argument. Yes, Anon, I'll walk to Sonar at 11 a.m. And you know what? It will be closed, like nearly every other live music club in this city. Because, Anon, most of them don't open until the evening. Imagine that.

Mark Gross and I did get a hold of Sonar's talent buyer and manager over the phone. And, we didn't waste any shoe leather. Here are some updates:

What's going on at Pur? Haven't seen it open in a bit (though I seem to remember a *hiatus* last year at some point)

About Sam Sessa
I've been The Baltimore Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.
