The way to find Baltimore's best happy hours
A few days back, Midnight Sunner Linnea sent me this e-mail:
Can you do a blog about good happy hour spots around town? Every Friday after work I try (usually in vain) to find a bar with good happy hour specials. This could even bee a running feature in the blog because different people want different happy hour experiences. For instance happy hours with 20–somethings, 30-somethings... , happy hours with live music, happy hours with excellent food specials, happy hours with drink specials, by city /county neighborhood. I could go on and on, but I’m sure you get the idea. So help all us repressed cubicle-dwellers let loose after work.
Linnea, I would love to do a feature like this. But I'm afraid I'm going to have to pass the buck on this one ...
Since happy hour specials change so often, it takes a ton of phone calling every week just to keep up on this kind of stuff. And there are already a bunch of Web sites that keep track of Baltimore happy hours.
Check out Localist, Metromix, Baltimore Specials, and 600Block.
Although, as I'm typing this, I'm starting to reconsider. What if, every week, I featured one happy hour? Is there enough interest in that? Or would that be a waste of my time, considering all of the other happy hour/event Web sites? Thoughts?

I like this idea. The Baltimore Specials website is a great one that I didn't know about.

i gotta say, whoever runs "Baltimore Specials" should be the next runner up for some kind of Nobel prize. FANTASTIC site, I use it all the time.

I'd recommend following "BaltimoreBars" on Twitter. He updates a few times each day with that evening's happy hour specials around town.
I'm sure there are some that he misses, but it's a great place to start.

Sam, the last thing we need is for you to put actual elbow grease into a blog post. Let's leave this for somebody else.

Posting a happy hour of the week would be awesome. While it's nice to have a listing of everything available, pointing out something specific would be great.
Sometimes a good special isn't just about the drink prices!

Wow, Baltimore Specials rocks... thanks for sharing, Sam!

It's a good idea but I think the excessive shilling would get annoying after a while.
(and to be totally honest, if you're willing to drink at a place like say, Lears II, you'd never need a happy hour special)

I agree with Evan. If you want cheap drinks just go to Muir's Tavern on Fort
Avenue.

BaltimoreSpecials.com is outdated. You never know which specials are current.
Metromix is a let down. 600Block is decent...I guess the Localist is the best of all of them.

How about an occasional but not necessarily weekly blog entry about happy hour specials. That way it wouldn't be a drag for you to research/write and would give you enough time between postings to really feature the interesting/different ones....
