The potential Pigtown bar takes a tentative step forward
While I was away, a couple of you asked about the bar in Pigtown that Jason Zink (Don't Know Tavern, No Idea Tavern) was thinking about opening.
If you're new to the saga, this and this should bring you up to speed.
The idea, which was first leaked on Midnight Sun, generated a huge response from bar owners (who said it was suicide) and Pigtown residents (who begged for another bar to visit).
Well, it looks like Jason is moving forward with his plans for 803-807 Washington Blvd. ...
Provided he and the landlord can work out the lease agreements, Jason wants to turn the place into a crab house with a big, U-shaped bar smack in the middle of it. You all know how I love U-shaped bars.
The landlord is going to submit a proposal next week, Jason told me in an e-mail.
"If I like it, we move ahead," he wrote. "Otherwise, we are back to square one. I am also looking at Hampden as well, just in case this deal doesn't go through."

I like the way you perfectly framed that crazy looking shirtless dude underneath the Pigtown sign. Besides that, thanks for the update. A lot of Pigtowners have a Google alert set up so we don't miss any news about our hood. So keep writing and we'll keep reading.

Good luck Jason! Don't give up hope no matter what! We really need you over here. You open and I'll be the first one banging on the door to be let in. Unless it's after closing then that could be some weirdo. Seriously, we need you!

I heard going to Pigtown will get you Swine Flu.

I have a great idea. Why don't you invite customers who are fans of the Ravens, Orioles and Terps? Or you can make it a Steeler, Duke, Yankee bar to help further alienate your Baltimore base?

i don't know ( pun possibly intended ), hampden could use another bar that isn't a breeding ground for hipsteritis.

Allan, yes, or maybe the hipsters will combine their powers and summon Snark-Ta-Gon.
Once summoned, Snark-Ta-Gon will use his seatbelt belt to lasso Jason Zink, and set fire to Zink's new bar with the butt of Snark-Ta-Gon's omnipresent Camel Light cigarette.

It looks like they're doing work on the building. We could use a good purpose built bar in Pigtown.

Snark-ta-Gon sounds like an AWESOMELY impressive foe! Who could combine their might, and defeat him!?!?!? (Don't you have a strike team on reserve for these kind of things?)

I happened to drive down Washington Boulevard this morning and saw a "For Lease" sign in the window, so I guess this isn't hapening?

@Mary Contrary
Right now the plan is not going to happen due to a lawsuit that I am involved in. If it doesn't make me bankrupt, which it really could, then I will start looking again in Pigtown. I live in Pigtown and I still think that a restaurant/ bar could work. Even if I can't do it, I hope somebody else does. I have heard some rumors but nothing significant. The area is ready for a nice place, it's just a matter of time.

How's it going, Jason? Pigtowners are still holding out hope for ya.

@Kel- I still have hopes. I looked at a place on Washington Blvd about two months ago and it looked like a great deal. It should be happening with me or without me.
I am still waiting for my lawsuit to end. I have mediation on November 23rd and if that doesn't work out then we go to trial in April. We are only 150k apart ;(
But in the meantime, checkout Tommy's on the corner near the elementary school, I heard that they have just opened their kitchen.
I still believe in Pigtown and I hope to be over there soon if all works out with my lawsuit.
Don't forget to vote for Adam Van Bavel next year, he wants to help continue the progress of Pigtown. I will keep you posted if anything comes about.
