Clutch is open (and has a Web site too)
Clutch, the new sports lounge which replaced Tiburzi's in Canton, is open for business, Midnight Sun commenter Mike 1,000 reports.
He sent me a link to their Web site.
According to the site, Clutch "brings together a trendy atmosphere with a sports influence."
Sounds interesting.
It's no Fumbles, for sure. But it sounds interesting.
Mike went there a couple times, and sent me this report ...
the owners Trevor and John are very friendly and nice. We were there very late Friday night, and my sister asked if they were still serving food at close to 1:00 AM. They said "Honey, our kitchen is always open" and she got a chicken sandwich. They also had a good crowd Saturday night. They have Blue Moon and Magic Hat #9 on tap, with other domestics.
Thanks for the heads up, Mike. Clutch must have opened in the past month or so. If you remember, I went there to check in on it in early April.

I've been The Baltimore Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.

Sounds like a nice place. It's close to where I live, so I'll be checking it out soon. I guess the website is still under construction, because I could not get to anything but the home page. Also, it may be my old geezer eyes, but I found the blood red print difficult to read.

I thought this was going to be about the band Clutch.

Was there last friday night, good crowd and good food. Owners are very friendly and good prices on drinks. Ask for the "clutch shot", will definitely be back soon

not to be too much of a beer snob, but they have the worst tap list that I've seen at a non-townie bar. cool upstairs lounge/deck though.

It would be better if their website listed their beers.

k, the impression i'm getting is this place doesn't have a beer list worth listing. but i could be wrong. that's the impression that i get.

Went there last Friday. Crowd was great and the staff was cool. The food/music was good too so all around I enjoyed it. I'll definitely be back.

Looks like another terrible Canton bar. It's a shame that the area is so overrun by d-bags.

I like Clutch, great upstairs, friendly people and good music. I think in the next coming months, they will have a great tap selection. let's keep coming back!

Manager: Hey there's a post about us on Midnight Sun. We need someone to make us sound good.
Nicole Williams: I'll do it!
Manager: OK but don't be obvious about it. Make it seem like you're a regular customer.

I had a great night out with my friends here. The place is really big (2 floors and a roof deck!) and has a great atmosphere and play good music. Drinks & food were great, staff was friendly, and the prices were reasonable and they have great happy hour specials. I would highly recommend.

I was there two weekends ago, they had a nice crowd, people were cool, great music and the upstairs was awesome- cool deck. Very inviting. The tap list was nothing to write home about but drinks were good and they just opened so who knows...Def better than the regular Canton bars that are all just the same.

"I loved it. It was much better than Cats. I'm going to go there again and again."
(sorry for the obscure reference)

BA,
The Kids In The Hall?
Posted by: RayRay | May 13, 2009 2:24 PM
No, it's from an old episode of SNL. After watching the Broadway show "The Amazing Alexander," which features a hypnotist played by Jon Lovitz, people are interviewed as they file out of the theater. Everyone says the EXACT same thing with a glazed-over look in their eyes: "I loved it. It was much better than Cats. I'm going to see it again and again."
Random, I know, but for some reason it seemed appropriate in this thread of comments.

apparently they have a hypno-toad on staff there as well...

I live down the street from Clutch. I realize it's a bar, and since I live in Canton, I'm used to loud noises and obnoxious drunks, but I could hear the music from this place loud and clear in my living room at 1:30 AM. It wasn't even good music and it didn't stop till well after 2 AM. And why does the Clutch sign they painted on the front of the bar look like a phallus? I can't wait for this place to go the way of Tiburzzi's...

Whats a Phallus? Oh well, Im sure its something that I like! I went to Clutch and it was awesome! Will def go back.

Ouch! You walked right into that one!

annoyed,
i live close by also. went in once and had a beer and a mediocre crab cake. i have the same problem with the noise. i also noticed a LOT of people in and drinking WELL after 2am. not the kind of first impression that goes over well in a residential neighborhood. i would normally say i wouldn't go back, but if krystal will be there looking for phallus, i guess i'll make myself availble!
Posted by: annoyed too | May 14, 2009 7:26 PM
Krystal, I am sure that any guy on this blog will show you what a phallus is!
Posted by: jason | May 14, 2009 7:35 PM
Sam, I would like to nominate Krstal for the comment of the year!

annoyed and annoyed too: The liquor board has a late night number for such things. You'd be best to call it after calling 911. Loud music complaints would be best to start somewhere after 11 or 12...
