Possibly the best version of "Stand by Me"

Midnight Sun reader Bob BBS sent me a link to this awesome video. Members of this organization called Playing For Change went all over the world and recorded street musicians singing the classic "Stand by Me." Then they put it all together for this video. If you even remotely like the song, you should really check it out.

that was really good. loved the random drum tribe.

Interesting, in a "Do They Know It's Christmas" sort of way.

wonder how many charting versions there are?

Ben E. King, the first and the standard.
John Lennon, from his "Rock 'N' Roll" album.
Mickey Gilley's country version

In Urban Cowboy, Gilley's Club was owned by Mickey.
He's also Jerry Lee Lewis' cousin.

...of course there's wikipedia entry

Also Cassius Clay became Muhammad Ali
Which earned him a place on "Golden Throats 2: More Celebrity Rock Oddities"

TV preacher Jimmy Swaggart is cousin to
Jerry Lee and Mickey.

Loved this version! Some of the songs on the 'Playing for Change' web site (there is a player at the bottom of the page) are pretty awesome as well... Definitely check out the song 'Revolution'..

Happenned to have bookmarked this.

Just listen to Cassius Clay (became Muhammad Ali)
Which earned him a place on "Golden Throats 2: More Celebrity Rock Oddities"

and it really isn't half bad.
