Changes at Tiburzi's

tiburzis baltimoreMidnight Sun reader Mike W. sent me this e-mail:

I was walking by the old Tiburzi's Saturday, there were guys painting the outside a light shade of green, then I saw this guy walk outside, looked like an owner.

He shook my hand and introduced himself, and said they are opening sometime the first week of April, as, and I quote "an upscale sports lounge."

I think he said it will be called "Clutch" but I may have misunderstood him ...

I wason my way to the Canton pub crawl and had other things on my mind. He seemed nice enough, and said to check it out, which my friends and I may.

But I am a little skeptical about the chances of success for an upscale anything in Canton, let alone off the square. Anywho, just thought I'd pass this along. Maybe they will at least accept credit cards, which Tiburzi's did not in their last incarnation.

Upscale? in Canton? You must be joking.

No, he meant Clutch would be the house band, every night.

"Every time, I open my window, cranes fly in to terrorize me!"

Every. Night.

Think about it, Think, Think about it.

Actually I heard that "Clutch" is the sister bar of soon to be open "Phantom" on Boston Street. Supposedly they will have a tunnel (that is 98% finished) that takes VIPs directly from Boston Street to Clutch. This is a good idea, due to all the paparazzi that hang out on Sunset Blvd., I mean Boston Street. No just kidding - it would be cool though (the tunnel portion that is).

Supposedly "Clutch" is the sister bar of "Phantom" on Boston Street. I hear there is a tunnel between the two that will allow VIPs to escape the paparazzi when they want to just take in some upscale football viewing. This may be a rumor thought?

I heard Clutch was closing????

Upscale in Canton is you drink your Miller Lite with the pinky out and baseball cap forward.

Women when trying to woo a gentleman, should say, "I believe I might be tipsy" instead of the traditional mating call of, "OH MY GOD, I'M SO DRUNK."

I think if I had to round up the top five funniest comment threads, this would probably be in it.

A tunnel to Phantom? Brilliant!

Rumor alert? Brilliant!

Ted, I hear that in Canton, all of the women smell like fresh dollar bills soaked in fancy perfume. Truth?

Met the owners the other day. Very nice guys, and Sam, you are right. They also told me it was going to be a sports lounge (don't remember upscale) and it's going to be named Clutch. Best of luck to them.

LGood, credit where credit is due -- many thanks to midnight sun reader Mike W.

I've been to "CLUTCH"...the owners did an awesome job with the color scheme and the new fixings. It's a chill place to watch the games and relax. The food was actually very delicious...American with a little extra. They have great specials...especially Thursday/$5 Martini night. It's definately worth a trip.

About Sam Sessa
I've been The Baltimore Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.
