"Drinking out of season"
Last year, roommate Patchen started showing film noirs on a semi-regular basis. He calls it Sin Sundays. Being a bad roommate, I haven't been to many of them, but I caught a great one the other night.
It's called Ace in the Hole, and it's about ... on second thought, if you like Kirk Douglas, newspapermen and film noirs, rent it.
For more about it, click here.
There are a few great lines in the film, but one stuck out. It comes early on, when Kirk Douglas is trying to convince a newspaper publisher to hire him.
Douglas says he's been fired from several other papers, and the publisher asks why ...
"Drinking out of season," Douglas says.
I love it!
We paused the movie and one of the guys looked up the phrase on Google. He didn't find much though. I think it means having a glass of winter lager in the summertime, or something to that effect.
Either way, I love the line, and want to see how many ways I can incorporate it -- or mutations of it -- into my daily routine. Suggestions are always appreciated.

I read a biography of some famous man who said that the best lesson his mentor ever taught him was to order a drink appropriate to the season. The story started at a bar when the guy was starting out his career and didn't know what to order when out for drinks with the mentor/boss and ordered a vodka tonic, even though it was winter. It was an interesting story, because I never knew there were season-appropriate drinks. I wish I could think of more details to send you towards this biography, but I can't. Hopefully, I'm not making it up... I guess I should really brush up on my reading comprehension skills before my LSAT, haha.
All I really know is that I'm anxiously awaiting summer so I can appropriately order mojitos again!

I guess growing up with Italian parents you understand there are certian drinks for certain meals and seasons. When my family and I went to Italy for a summer I had a relative who I thought was a drunker. After every meal, and I mean every meal he had some sort of alcohol. Later I relaized that each drink helped digest the meal and some drinks were seasonally appropriate.
