Free taxis tonight

taxi! Here's the skinny, courtesy of Sun writer Brent Jones:

Yellow Cab is offering free rides home tonight to those who have too much to drink and live within the Baltimore area, according to co-sponsors AAA Mid-Atlantic and the Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration.

The Tipsy? Taxi! campaign is in its second year and provided more than 100 rides last New Year's Eve. Free taxi rides for up to $50 will be given from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. to those at least 21 years old who have been drinking at a restaurant or bar in Baltimore. Balances more than $50 are the passenger's responsibility.

Riders are to call 1-877-963-TAXI for the service. The program will also be available on St. Patrick's Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day.

Thanks, Brent!

Just an FYI, 95/695 interchange (White Marsh/Parkville) IS NOT considered in the Baltimore Area. At least not last year when NO cab would take us out of the city. And we weren't even trying to get it for free, were willing to pay FULL PRICE!!

That sucks! I live in Parkville and other news sites said the Baltimore Metropolitan area. Why isn't there a site with a clear distinction of which area this service covers?

yeah...good luck trying to A. find that "free" taxi once you called for it. B. keeping people out of this taxi that 'you' called. C. Taking it for free.

Nice in theory, bad in execution.

You can always count on 2 things NYE:
1. Things not living up to expectations.
2. A taxi nightmare.

Scott, I'll second that.

About Sam Sessa
I've been The Baltimore Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.
