The review: Backstretch Saloon

backstretch saloonHere is a link to my review of the Backstretch Saloon, which came out in today's paper.

As far as neighborhood dive bars go, the Backstretch ranks pretty high in my opinion.

Any of you been there? If so, it's probably because you live there.

The first time I went, a woman was talking about how she had to get surgery the next day.

The bartender told her she probably shouldn't be drinking. But she said she'd never be able to sleep without a few cold ones.

Ever been to Irish Pub on Clinton and Eastern? Now that's a neighboorhood dive. I remember sitting on the couch watching LOST last spring, and saw all these lights. I opened my front door and saw an ambulance put three stabbing victims in the back. Then police tape was wrapped to my stoop.

Talk about "where everybody knows your name"....

hee hee ... where everybody knows your name, and everybody has your number.

is it really just called "irish pub"?

No mention about how cold the drafts were or about how [rockin] the j box was? Did you even hang out, or just beat it after you found out there was no apple-tini's and no Kid Rock "all summer long" blarring?

There are drunk bartenders and annoying girls at every bar!

chris,
perhaps this was a stab at humor, if so then i missed it. did you read his story? (not the blog, the link) if so then i assume your kidding, if not, perhaps you should read before you write.

sam, no comments on the bathrooms??? whats up with that!

Shush, you.

About Sam Sessa
I've been The Baltimore Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.
