The best Britney Spears cover song?

"... Baby One More Time" may have been her breakthrough hit, but I don't know if Britney Spears will ever be able to top "Toxic."

From the slinky strings to the twangy guitar work, "Toxic" is three and a half minutes of pure pop seduction. And yes, I know, Britney doesn't write her own stuff. But her vocals fit that song like a glove.

When I heard Israeli-French soul singer and accomplished pianist Yael Naim regularly covers "Toxic," I was a little skeptical. Then I watched it and was transfixed. Naim's vocals are a little over the top and piercing at times. But I have to say -- after watching this, I have a new appreciation for the song (and Naim). And I bet you'll either love it or hate it. See for yourself ...

Ok, I've gotta go all GDA for this. I found quite a few covers.

-Local H does a really good cover of Toxic as well. Remember them? Yeah, someone should.

-Finnish death metal band, Children of Bodom do an awesome cover of "Oops, I did it again".

-Bluegrass Band, Nickel Creek does another cover of "Toxic"

-Japanese pop-punkers, Nicotine doing "hit me baby one more time"

-And of course the best Brit cover of all, rare concert footage of Prince doing "Sometimes".

Get real. Have you ever heard Richard Thompson's cover of "Ooops, I Did It Again"? Freaking genius.

The Nickel Creek cover is fantastic -- though it would be much better with higher sound quality and fewer screaming girls.

I'm pretty sure i've seen that Prince footage somewhere else... can't place it. Good stuff though.

BA, agreed for the Nickel Creek cover. As for the Prince footage, when it works, it works.

I vote for weezer's cover of "baby one more time"

My votes --
Travis doing "Hit me Baby" and/or
Mark Ronson (feat Ol Dirty B@#$@#) "Toxic" -- I believe that is the last recording ODB did before his death

I'm sorry, but only Britney Spears can sing Toxic. The good thing about Britney is that when you hear her songs, her image crosses your mind. Just like listening to Yael's performance, all I could picture in my head is Britney in her red wig....Nice try though.

A Static Lullaby's cover is AMAZING! just in case someone wanted to check it out..
