Hops Inn: A Dundalk gem

beerIf you're planning on doing a Dundalk bar tour, make Hops Inn (7002 Railway Ave.) one of your stops.

I went there a couple months ago and wrote about the family-owned bar. Here's a link to the story.

In it, I talked about the ridiculously cheap $3 shots of Johnny Walker Blue Label.

Mmmmm ...

Sorry, lost myself there for a second.

Anyway, MS reader Lorraine went there last night and has some semi-sad news to report ...

Alas, they substituted JW Black for Blue. Lee's rationale is that the regulars couldn't see the sense of paying 3 bucks a shot for 'a shot of whiskey.' I ended up spending a mere 2 dollars for what had to be at least 2 jiggers worth of Jameson.

However the selection of brews on tap were superb. I had a Ying Ling Lager and a Killian's Red and their pepperoni pizza was better than many I've had at many a gen-u-ine parlor.

Oh well. Hops still ranks pretty high on my list of Dundalk bars.

Ying Ling lager eh? Hops Inn even carries Chinese beers. Quite a selection.

I'm sure Sam Sessa meant Yuengling Lager rather than Ying Ling Lager.

Sam Sessa didn't write it -- Lorraine did. That's why it's in italics.

About Sam Sessa
I've been The Baltimore Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.
