Georgie James disbands
Critically acclaimed Washington-based indie rock duo Georgie James has broken up.
I spoke with singer/songwriter Laura Burhenn about this last week during her solo Baltimore Unsigned taping. At the time, she didn't want to go on the record about it.
But since they posted it on their Web site, I figured no harm done by announcing it here.
Their debut record Places was my favorite local album of 2007 and one of the best albums to come out last year. I think it will be largely influential for future artists. I just don't think it sold well.
So, goodbye Georgie James, and thanks for one heck of a show at The Ottobar a few months back and a great debut. Maybe we'll see you again someday down the road.

This is nuts. This is a band I described as "game-changing"—they were that good.
Now I'll probably never get that 7" they ran out of when I saw them. :-(

I was at that Ottobar show and I seem to remember her saying back then that they'd just broken up?
