Electrical fire at Metropolitan
Metropolitan Coffeehouse and Wine Bar (902 S. Charles St.) has closed temporarily due to a fire, I'm told.
I heard it was an electrical fire, but haven't been able to reach the place by phone.
The line's been busy for a while now.
I'll post more as soon as I hear more.

I've been The Baltimore Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.

But...you were at Metropolitan. Just the other night. I have witnesses.
COINCIDENCE?!?!?

Yup, it was an electrical fire. Started around 4:00 am Sunday morning with most of the real damage contained to the first floor and kitchen. Thankfully no one was hurt, but the neighborhood is still reeling from the [temporary] loss of everyone's favorite restaurant, bar, coffeehouse, hang-out. They hope to be reopen within two months - but it's all very up in the air right now.

Hopefully everything works out alright. I hate to see anybody lose their job for a couple of months. Metropolitan will come back even better after they remodel. They have a great concept.
