Fab Five Friday

More than any other cocktail, the mojito is the quintessential summer drink, methinks.

When made well, the icy mix of sugar, lime, mint, rum and soda water tickles my fancy.

And Baltimore has a few bars and clubs that make really good mojitos.

Here they are ...

1. Little Havana, 1325 Key Highway

So good. Like Sturmy said, it's far and way the best in town. No contest.

2. Holy Frijoles, 908 W. 36th St.

Bad service or not, Holy Frijoles has one heck of a mojito. I like how they top it off with ginger beer -- that way it's never too sweet.

3. Club One, 300 E. Saratoga St.

I'll admit, I've never had one here. But I've heard so many great recommendations from trusted friends that it has to make the list.

4. Mama's on the Half Shell, 2901 O'Donnell St.

The limes are fresh-pressed at Mama's. But the bartenders do tend to make their mojitos a tad sweet. Just be ready.

5. Babalu Grill, Power Plant Live

Bablu has a couple different decent mojitos to choose from. Just don't expect to get the most well-made drinks when the place is packed on a Friday or Saturday night.

funny you mention the service at holy's, its always terrible

A mojito list on the day before julep day?

I mean, who drinks juleps outside of Kentucky?

Three... in Patterson Park has a fantastic rasberry mojito. So good...

You don't carry around a little vial of bitters to cut the sweetness when you get in a tight spot?

There's a pretty tasty mango mojito at Jack's Bistro that's worth a try.

Holy Frijoles, their mojito must be an euphoric concoction to tolerate really terrible service.

I know of someone who went to a restuarant where she HATED the service so much, she left one penny for each person who made up the luncheon group, just to make sure her opinion wasn't missed by the server.

Mojito is for girls only Sam Sessa! The Negroni is more manly for the summer times!

I am a fan of the mojito at Mama's on the half shell in Canton!!

What is the criteria for a drink to be for only girls?
Are there any drinks that should never be drank by girls?

Inquiring minds want to know!

You are kity kats! Yu should chage this to Afternoon Tea with Ladies and Large Hats. Bring it okay! WWJD! Yes Jesus would strike you dead for lameness and turn your watery sole into fine reed wine!!!! Same Sesssa bring yuor game up to speed dude!!!! I feeel yuor pain..

I just got back from a week in the Dominican Republic (somehow, as relaxed as I am, all of GDAs comments still frustrate me) and had a drink there called a Caparina. Very similar to the Mojito. Very good. Very refreshing.

I think TS means the caipirinha, which is a Brazilian drink.
