Umm, I doubt it will be Canton's newest hotspot.
I live off of Ponca and I saw some people moving things in a few weeks ago. I can't imagine it will do anything. The Boston Street curse has moved further up!

Sam,
It's the same place, pretty sure.
I thinkthe liquor license may have been transfered from Laura (owner of Club Malibu) last Summer/Fall. At least, I know there was a buyer and THREE transfer hearings.
The place had been closed for more than 90 days and there were all kinds of protests to keep the license from being transfered.
It's hard to tell if the same people that were behind Malibu are the same people behind Lava Lounge, as the Liquor Board, itself, does not publicly publish its decisions, and I never really saw too much media interest in this transfer.
However, you would think that if the license to a place, a place plagued by violence and problems, was to be transfered, the new owners would go out of their way to let the public know the place is under under management/ownership.
It will also be interesting to see what happens with Club Mate in Brooklyn now that their license has been revoked.

Hahaha Lava Lounge. Formerly located where Chart House Restaurant was (which is now something else entirely), home to $10 all you can (underage) drink night! I never really thought I'd see the name again. I am curious as to whether it's the same people running it or not.
(ps that place sucked)

Wasn't their a Lava Lounge in the Power Plant proper back in the day, where Chipolte is now? I was too young to party there, and by the time I was old enough it had closed. Sad I missed out, that and the Bohager's experience as well. At least I had Baja for a time. Sigh.

I used to be a barmaid when it was club malibu... business was great before the stabbings... A guy named jimmy was the owner it is now called Lava Lounge and I haven't been there yet but if I know Jimmy not much changed. I left the day that he had to go to the liquor board. He got shut down that day for 90 days.. I haven't been back since.

That fool bought that property during Baltimore's high life. Now he's trying to unload for a mere 1.2 million. If/when they sell if for that price, I would love to meet the new owners, I'd like to see what a 1.2 million dollar sucker looks like. Cause we already know what a 600,000 sucker looks like = The Lava Lounge
Anonymous - Who are you trying to fool? That area is a dump and will remain one in the future due to this economy.

i bartend at the lava lonuge and it is nothing like the above comments. It is a upscale sports bar- 2 floors, and very nice inside- yes- the neighborhood may not be in the best of area but the place is fantastic- and yes jimmy is the owner of lava as well.
