Is Dizzy Issie's closed?

It's a good question.

And I wish I knew the answer.

I've called that corner bar a couple times in the past two days. Each time I call, the phone just keeps ringing.

That's not a good sign.

The folks at Charm City Cakes said they knew it was closed but thought it was back open.

Anybody know for sure?

as far as I know, it's just for vacation!

Word on the street is they had a bad accountant, who's no longer with them.....and for some reason or another they need to re-new a license (ABC?) so they're closed until paper work goes through....

Was this place only open at night?

Jack, no they were open for lunch too.

Went there 2 weekends ago and there was a sign on the door saying they were closed until May 12th. I hope they're not done for good!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

Um, I'm not badmouthing Elaine, but she's no spring chicken. Maybe she's just tired and taking a little "breather"?

Just went by and saw a new sign..."Will re-open. Check back for date."

This is way too wonderful a bar to close. The neighborhood is suffering. Is there something that can be done to help?

June 6-- still closed. Bummer

Word is the daughter is taking over, being re-named to "The Diz", with outdoor seating, sometime in July when paperwork is done.

...my guess is they are closed for good.

live around the corner.

Walked by Dizzy Issie's this weekend and there's a sign on the door now saying they'll be back around August 4th...I hope it's true but will believe it when I see it.

Their liquor license was suspended because the neighbors didn't like the noise/fact that it was a bar at night. I've heard it's reopening, but I'm not sure.

It takes a lot more than just the neighbors not liking the noise for a liquor license to get suspended, otherwise every bar on Cross Street would be closed. If their liquor license was suspended Sam would know about it and it would be general knowledge.

Update: I was driving home yesterday and saw a grand opening sign on the door, which i think was for this past tuesday. if i check it out this weekend, i'll let any interested parties know.

About Sam Sessa
I've been The Baltimore Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.
