The scoop on bacon vodka

I did it.

I drank ... drum roll please ... bacon vodka. At Capt. Larry's.

Oh yes.

You: So, stop stalling and tell us how it tasted, Sessa!

Me: OK.

Do you know those dog treats Beggin Strips? That's what it reminded me of.

Not to say I've eaten Beggin Strips. But I've smelled them.

And, oddly enough, they were the first thing to come to mind when I did the shot.

If I were reviewing bacon vodka for the New York Times, I would describe it thusly:

"The drink had a robust, meaty aroma that pleased the palette, grounded by a sharp undercurrent of liquor. It will surely stimulate the senses of breakfast aficionados."

If I were writing for the Times, I would call it "groin-grabbingly transcendant!"

Did you chase it with a Red Eye?

wanna see a grown man cry? hey bartender, do you know how to make a red eye?

i wanted to chase it with a scrambled egg-tini. but captain larrys was all out.

Shouldn't the aroma or the bouquet please the nose and the taste please the palette?

Shouldn't knock if you haven't tried it but it sounds like a beautifal way to ruin bacon and vodka.

Capt Larry's appears to be the mixology equivalent of a circus side show.

Silly GDA. Everything is better with bacon. Proven FACT.

I would have thought someone who is a professional writer would know the difference between a palette(for colors) and a palate(for tasting).

From personal vodka-infusing experience, I can say that Bacon + Vodka = Delicious. You can't argue with math! (And if you can't handle it straight, use bacon vodka for the best bloody mary you've every had...)

"Not to say I've eaten Beggin Strips. But I've smelled them."

Sure you haven't...

I agree GDA, but would you believe that on some food packages worldwide, aroma indicates taste/flavour?

Makes no sense to me either..

Is this the vodka that you made or are you able to stop by at CL's and get it?

Yet again another [fool] that thinks they are a walking dictionary. Thanks silly for picking a story to death and finding the one thing wrong with it. Now go back to your pointless life.

Ahhh... two of KosherPig's favorite things merged together.. Bacon Vodka

I can't wait to try some!

LPM, yes, I got this from Captain Larry's. They got another shipment in. Don't know how long it will last though. This stuff goes quick.

One thing I forgot to mention -- the stuff was a cloudy, yellowish color, presumably from the bacon fat.

They should indeed have a whole breakfast array of vodkas.

Phil McCockie,

Touché!

Thanks for playing pot to our kettle.
Need a file?

Need the bacon, egg, & cheese vodka... the alcohol would kill off the salmonella, right?

then the Chorizo vodka...

and of course - pancake batter vodka :)

this is a horrible review. i could explain why, but i have work to do.

next time chase it with my peepee you 'mo. stop digging this crap

Has anyone tried baked beans vodka before?

imagine drinking that all night and then having to throw it up.

bacon is meat candy!

the double down saloon (las vegas and new york) makes bacon martinis. my girlfriend reports that the bacon bloody mary tastes like "barbequed V8".

They need to make sausage vodka, and scrambled egg vodka so that you can put a shot of all those with the bacon vodka in a glass of orange juice to make not only a type of screwdriver but breakfast in a glass.

Bacon vodka is gross you carnivores. Mmmmmm, tofu vodka

Although I hear it goes pretty well with scrambled-egg beer and biscuit whiskey.

(Alcohol --- it's what's for breakfast!)

a couple geniuses (geni?) at the bar last night devised the BLT shot- bacon vodka, tomato juice, and a touch of dry vermouth, to act as that crisp lettuce element. i didn't partake, but they all seemed quite pleased.

Yeah it was pretty good, I only retched a little once prior to the creation of said BLT shot.

Abby, did they add mayonaise and Pikesville Rye to that too?

@abby: Thanks for putting up with our request to make something out of the bacon vodka. Surprisingly, the BLT turned out to be quite tasty. I certainly wouldn't call us genii.

@Evan: Thanks for putting up with us on Saturday night and partaking in the BLT.

@julie: The obvious answer is no.

we're talking about bacon vodka. there are no obvious answers. and no, J- thank *you*

Hey no prob JJT it was fun!

(even the ...awkward "side door" moments)

I love bacon vodka. It goes great in a bloody mary:

Nice article!

Check out my website, VodkaRanking; that attempts to list all the existing/known vodkas and rank them according to their taste hopefully becoming an official top vodka ranking list.

Martini. Bacon, not stirred.

About Sam Sessa
I've been The Baltimore Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.
