The Knotty Pine catches fire

A two-alarm fire raged for more than two hours last night at The Knotty Pine, a Canton bar at South Conkling Street and Fait Avenue.

The cause has not yet been determined.

Here is a link to the story.

Sam, I live by that area. I will stop by to see how much damage was done. Has anyone ever been to that bar?

This is my parent's bar. It has been destroyed. I am so thankful for the friends and family that have been coming to the bar to offer then love and support. I am in Ohio and just viewed helicopter footage and am just heart broken. This place was not just a bar, it was a family. The people who come here have been coming for years and years. My heart aches for my parents.

This is awful. I had only been to the Knotty Pine a couple times but every time I went, I felt like I was at home. Great atmosphere...I was just singing karaoke there on Saturday. I hope it gets rebuilt. Thank God the owners weren't injured. I'll be pulling for them to get the Knotty Pine back and better than ever.

I stopped by there today. The Marchs are wonderful people and the building has been condemned so it will be some time before it re-opens. A loss of a great local bar. I look forward to its resurrection.

This bar was the best. Alice and Coach are fantastic people. We were just there for Super Bowl. This is a very sad day. We are very thankful that everyone is safe.

Has the cause of the fire ever been determined?

About Sam Sessa
I've been The Baltimore Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.
