Muggsy's replaces Clayton's Tavern

Muggsy's Mug House has opened in the Light Street building that formerly housed Clayton's Tavern and Sean Bolan's.

The bar's new owners, Danny Young, Brent Putman and Ryan Cooper, plan to steer it back to the Sean Bolan's days, when the focus was on beer.

Of the 16 drafts, about a dozen will be area brews like Clipper City, Dogfish Head and Yuengling, Young said.

"We're not on Cross Street, so we're not going for the kids who are going to slug 20 Miller Lites in a night, Young said.

"We want to be the neighborhood hangout."

Muggsy's grand opening is 8 p.m. Friday, which features $1 off all drafts and a free panini buffet

Paninis will be Muggsy's menu specialty.

Here is a link to Muggsy's Web site.

Muggsy's phone number is 410-528-9111, the address is 1236 Light St. and the hours are 5 p.m.-1 a.m. Mondays-Wednesdays and 11:30 a.m.-1 a.m. Thursdays-Saturdays.

Its sad that no bar can stay in that location. Claytons had awesome food.

I take exception to waving a blanket statement about Cross St. just because two or three of the places are crappy frat bars.

However, if they steer things back to Sean Bolan's and provide free peanuts I'll be happy. Paninis??

Paninis!

Are these the same owners of Botty's Bottle House? Or was it Glassy's Glass House?
Meh. either way I won't throw stones

The pic you attached to this post always gets me pumped for a good night out.

Sean's was there for years and we can't be happier to have head quarters or something very close back again! We all had many happy memories there! I am very excited.

I was a Sean's regular and the thing we liked was the BEER. Clayton's just did not get that. They took Resurrection right off the tap week one. Did they have any idea how long the waiting list was for that beer? Hopefully Muggsy's will have more savvy management.....

I like the idea for panninis, federal hill needs a bar with some different food options.I can't wait to check out the grub!

So what other bar do the owners act as managers, and what other bar do the owners actually walk around and get to know its clientele? Come on?! Great Job Guys!!! GREAT beer, GREAT food, GREAT service!!!!

Lots of bars do that

no one will replace Claytons they were awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was a Claytons fan they had great food, great wine and beer I enjoyed seeing the neighbors and lets face it you didn't get better service anywhere around here! I still gave Muggsy a shot and went in to check it out. I won't be back anytime soon they have no Idea what they are doing! I hope they work on what it is they are trying to do so it can work. For the young lady that said Claytons didn't do well with their beer selection Did you ever go in there? Good luck

Why won't you go back anytime soon? You stated you're a claytons cheerleader, fair enough, but please give us specific info on why "they have no idea what they are doing" That blanket statement is useless. That's like telling me Bmore has a high murda rate. Do you want high end table/bottle service? White linen? What?

David, I think they know exactly what they are doing. They are providing a fun, neighborhood bar with a great atmosphere and a nice beer selection. Clayton's was also a nice place, but unfortunately it didn't work out for them. You should definitely check them out again, don't be scared!

About Sam

I've been The Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.
