The Gold Depot to become a diner

The Gold Depot (pictured), a long-shuttered bar at Fort Avenue and South Light Street, will be reborn as a 24-hour diner in the next year or two.

Jason Zink, co-owner of the Don't Know/No Idea franchise, said he is waiting on the building's owners to complete renovations.

"The owners are the nicest people in the world, but they have a lot on their plate," Zink said. "Whenever they're ready, I'm ready."

As long as the food is greasy good, I think an all-night diner would do well there.

Wonder what he's going to name it?

My suggestion:

"Duh!"

When I first read this post, I thought it said "The Gold Club to become a diner."

If that were the case, I would have kept the name.

It's not a free standing structure therefore it's not a "diner." Don't believe me? Ask Epicurious L.I.Z.

About Sam Sessa
I've been The Baltimore Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.
