Fab Five Friday

Without further ado, here are my five favorite Baltimore bar names.

1. Slim's Ace of Club, 4200 Belair Road

I drove by this place a year ago and couldn't stop laughing when I saw the sign. It still makes me chuckle.

2. Dick's Halfway Inn, 8013 Philadelphia Road

3. The Horse You Came In On, 1626 Thames St.

The tail end of one of my favorite vintage cut-downs.

4. Ale Mary's, Fleet and Washington Streets

This bar has fun with but doesn't make fun of relgion. That's a fine line, and I like the way it walks it.

5. Bar, 1718 Lancaster St.

Much more confusing than Don't Know or No Idea Taverns.

Dead Freddies on Harford Road gets my vote!

oh man, you missed the best one: "Butts & Betty's" in butchers hill/canton.

Stumblin' Inn - South Baltimore, not sure if it even still exists.

No. 2 on your list is way funnier than No. 1.

How about the Dew Drop Inn on Philadelphia Rd? Pretty clever name.

What is this "without further adieu"? Is that a fancy way to say "without further ado"?

I am still laughing at #2.

How about Chaos off of Joppa Road. Not so much the name as it is their slogan "Baltimore's Best Strip Club & Dely". Lets just say just don't eat the roast beef! You will regret it forever...

Come on now, no Swallow at the Hollow?

Dew Drop Inn. Clever? You've got to be kidding. There are only about 1000 bars with that name.

Hey Sam, I am partial, but other than the obvious, The Horse You Came In On, is pretty good. Bob and Carl do a pretty good job running Dick's Halfway Inn as well.

Butts and Betty's and the Stumblin Inn are two bars where I used to shoot pool in the old Busch (now Bud Light?) Pool League.
Dick's Halfway Inn was a bar I frequented a lot when it was the Rosedale Inn. Now its just a biker bar, I believe.
jonnyb, don't you mean KAOS??
And what about the Buzz On Inn, believe it used to be on Belair Road, just above Erdman??

w is for Where is roch around the clock? :-)

About Sam Sessa
I've been The Baltimore Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.
