The Vine update
It may be a while yet until the city's best wine tastings resume.
The Vine (pictured), the city's least pretentious wine bar, has been closed for renovations since May.
Only ... the renovations haven't started yet.
Instead, they've just been planning. And replanning.
"It's been pretty slow so far," said co-owner Shane Mitchell.
At one point, they contemplated knocking the whole building down, Mitchell said. They decided to just rehab it, like they originally planned.
Renovations on the South Baltimore bar should start in the next three weeks, and should wrap up in the spring, Mitchell said. I'm not holding my breath.

I've been The Baltimore Sun's nightlife and local entertainment reporter for a couple years, and it's surprising how much the scene has grown in that time. Most of Baltimore's bars and clubs are unpretentious places with fairly cheap drinks and plenty of character. I like dancing and think this city needs more clubs, but nothing beats having a cold, locally brewed beer with friends in a comfortably full corner bar.
