Three Hot Weekend Tips
1. Lafayette Gilchrist (pictured) and the New Volcanoes at Joe Squared Pizza & Bar tonight
Gilchrist, Acclaimed Baltimore jazz pianist, is putting on a free show at Joe Squared, at Howard Street and North Avenue. The restaurant has been hosting great local acts since the beginning of June. Tonight's show starts at 9 p.m.
2. Chick Hall's Surf Club closing celebration, 3 p.m. Saturday
Here's another don't-miss free show: an all-day surf fest featuring more than a dozen bands which starts at 3 p.m. and ends at 3 a.m.
3. The Baltimore Improv Group at the Baltimore Museum of Art Saturday
This free performance starts at 8 p.m. and features a performance by Gus, one of BIG's troupes. You might want to get reservations in advance -- it will probably fill up.

Local dream pop duo Beach House (who are helping put Baltimore on the cool music scene map) play Saturday night at 2620 Space on St. Paul St. Opening band is Grizzly Bear who are tremendous in their own right.Not to be missed.Show lets in at eight.
