What is a Southside?

Hal,
I don't feel so bad now.
A Southside is a drink made from a smooth, citrusy mixer native to these parts.
Then you add rum or vodka to taste.
Or so I've heard.

Sam, for a true Southside you've got to use Mount Gay Eclipse rum - no other brand, and certainly no other liquor.
As for mix, traditionally old Baltimore would buy their mix direct across the bar at Green Spring Valley Hunt Club. Mr. Lee, who was the head bartender there all through my high school and college years (late 70's/early 80's) made it up and sold it himself.
I haven't been there for years and have no idea whether you could still pick it up there (or even if Mr. Lee is still with us) - but I do know that at Wells Liquors you can pick up a relative newcomer of a Southside mix called Lindsay's - supposed to be perfectly serviceable. Think that Eddie's and Graul's stock it also.
The composition is typically 1 part rum, 2 parts mix, and 2 parts club soda, but you can vary the amount of rum based on your personal preference. Top it off with some fresh mint.
They go down real easy, from what I remember - enjoy!
