As a local who tries to avoid the tourist scene on the weekends i frequent the Dead End on Fell St.Good food and food specials every night, friendly bartenders and cheap beer make it very welcoming. It feels sort of hidden since you pretty much have to know it's there or stumble upon it.

There's something seductively authentic about Wharf Rat ... it's like you've stepped back in time a century or so. Only there's bar trivia. Oh, and the brews are potent, too.

Gotta go with Max's on Broadway, for the sheer number of choices available. No matter what kind of beer mood you're in, you can find something to your taste.

Uhhh...no one mentions Max's? The atmosphere might not be the best, but the selection and variety more than make up for it. Avoid the overbearing crowd and go on a weeknight.

Hey anonymous Duclaw hater -
I live in Fells and despite DuClaw being a "tourist" bar, I'm not going to be a snob and stop going there. The homebrewed beer is better than all the Lite beers you all drink and the bar setup is probably the best in the city. And it's not usually overcrowded and smoky like most Fells Pt bars. So basically it's not your typical Fells Pt bar even though it's in Fells.

Is Max's still banned from FFF?
I second Warf Rat because at any moment, if feels like EA Poe might come in from a snowy night, hang up his coat, and drown some sorrows by the fireside. How far north on Broadway can this go?
Why would you hate on Du Claw. Great beer, outdoor seating, pretzel dogs. It's a Maryland brewer. If you have a problem with chains, stay out of Green Turtle (don't they have an a BWI location now?)
I like Red Star and John Stevens too. Both have good beer selections and food and I have never been disappointed.
