Pop Winans was a gospel giant
David 'Pop' Winans Sr., was a man who was a "no-nonsense old-fashioned holiness preacher and singer,” the Rev. J. Drew Sheard, husband of Karen Clark Sheard of the Clark Sisters, told The Detroit Free Press.
Winans, father of 10, including BeBe and Cece Winans and the Rev. Marvin Winans, was an accomplished artist.
In 1989, he and his wife, Delores, recorded their Grammy-nominated debut CD “Mom & Pop Winans.” The couple's second album , “The Rest of My Life,” featured “Go Tell It On The Mountain,” a soulful rendition that became popular in church circles, according to the Free Press story.
Winans wasn't always a musician, though. Before the worldwide family popularity, he was preacher, entrepreneur and community activists in Detroit.
He recently moved to Nashville, where he died yesterday, to be closer to several of his children.

To the entire Winans family. My prayers and thoughts are truly with you all. To Alvin and CeeCee know that I am with you and your entire family in prayer. I am greatful for the life of Pop Winans and the legacy of Holiness for which he stood. There are very few left among us that stand with such strong covinction as he did. The writ of our God states who taketh to thought when great men are removed from us. Great generals that have served por God faithfully for many years are moving off the scene. But what a peace and joy to know that they have transitioned to be with the Lord eternally. Yes he will be greatly missed but what a joy to be with the Lord for ever. Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord for they do rest from there labors!! The Blessing of the Lord and his great Peace be with you all forever.

To the entire Winan's family, losing a father is a terrible thing to have to go through... But in time and with God it becomes bearable.. Isaiah 41:10 Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Dont be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you with my righteous right hand.
God Bless You All
